Maryland's Governor Larry Hogan, a Republican, suggested on Sunday that he would have voted to convict former President Donald Trump if he had been serving as a juror in the Senate, while also urging the GOP to leave the "cult" of the former commander in chief

Hogan has frequently criticized and clashed with Trump. The Maryland governor called on Trump to resign or be removed from office following the violent insurrection by the then president's supporters against the U.S. Capitol on January 6. Although Trump was impeached a week later by the House of Representatives, he remained in the White House until the end of his term on January 20. The Senate on Saturday voted to acquit Trump, but seven Republicans voted with all 50 members of the Democratic Caucus to convict.

The GOP is on deaths door with all their infighting.  Personally, I would not vote for Trump again, but I also will not vote for any GOP establishment types like Mr. Hogan.

They just need to make the break from Trump and get it over with. It's probably hard for some of them to do, since not everyone can afford to risk the hit with losing supporters.

That is their real problem though.  Trump brought in a lot of folks from many walks of life that will be unlikely to stick with the the GOP if it reverts back to elitist Party they are often portrayed as.  I don’t see the GOP being able to encourage those voters (and not all of them are conspiratorial kooks) to stick with them.  We shall see, the Dems could really screw up badly in the next few years, but they will get a lot of cover for anything they do at least until after it may impact an election.
