Does the political climate between your home country and the US matter to you?

  1. 1. The relations between my (or my SO's) home country and the US:

    • don't matter to me at all
      7
    • are very important to me, and I follow new developments closely
      9
    • are somewhat important, but not enough to make me worried/happy
      24
    • I never though about it.

I was wondering how other people feel about this.

During the "frostier" times between Germany and the US I felt a little uneasy, even though I supported the German government's decision not to follow the US and go to war with Iraq.

I had to endure a few comments about the "ungratefulness" of Germany and even though I didn't think they were justified, they still made me think about this more.

With Brazil I guess it's currently not that big of a deal (in that we're not exactly on the brink of war or great allies either). It was embarrassing when Bush went there and asked the president if they really had black people in Brazil though. And when Bush did some Brazilian cultural dancing, that was embarrassing too. I do keep an eye out for when the US does sh!tty things to Brazil. Happens more than once in awhile.

Did he ask if they had black people in Brazil - or African Americans? :P

Somewhat important.

There have been some times of frosty relations, not entirely one-sided (some US presidents such as Nixon have shown dislike of India; however, as counterpoint Nehru and Indira Gandhi were openly pro-Soviet) and other times of tepid relations (such as currently).

Relations between India and UK have generally been warmer than those between India and US.

I follow the situation, and I don't like when people I know make certain comments about Germany, Germans, or past actions of Germany. I have surprisingly heard comments about it, such as "does it bother you to be marrying a German?" I was asked that and responded with "not as much as it bothers his family that I live in Bush's country." That shut them up. :)

But I do like to know what's going on b/n the two countries, as well as what's going on in his country, as one day I may live there, and because if we have children, they'll be dual citizens.

i don't follow it closely, but i probably should a bit more. i would like to someday have a house there and have our kids go there for summers sometimes and such.... nothing is set in stone (i'm only in my twenties!!! lol) but i think having a good relationship with american would be important. also obviously for reasons other than my own selfish ones :)

I'm French and I never met so much French hater in my entire life... Not that I care about the average "support our troops" redneck but I'm very annoyed that some douche think I want to hear their "opinion" on the French...

Since we have a new president in France I really read a lot about the way he wants to handle diplomatic relationship especially with the US.
