May be an image of text that says 'Looking for a married woman, recently cheated on, mad and scorned, who is willing to sell me her husband's ammo for cheap.'

I saw this and thought it fit perfectly in this thread

Suicide accounts for the greatest number of gun deaths in the US. I haven’t heard of anyone mag dumping 30 rounds into their own head.  Rifles of any type account for about 4% of all gun deaths. Handguns about 64%. AR style rifles about 300 per year, +/-.

Chicago had 769 gun homicides for 2020. But who cares about that, right?

I don't but many of these statistics and the people pimping the gun control narrative always throw suicides in the mix as well with the other gun related deaths. I am sitting here thinking that if these people didn't die by a firearm then they would find some other way to kill themselves.

I really hate that as well. A large capacity magazine is like a 100 round drum not a 30 round magazine. Surprisingly this issue was brought up in the local fb politics page that I bring up sometimes and it was the only issue that many Republicans and Democrats came together. But there was a couple people talking about the "high capacity magazines" and how no one needs a AR-15 that can "fire through a helmet at 500 yards".

As best as I can remember, those terrible black rifles came with 20 and 30 round magazines from the factory. Standard capacity for that firearm. And 9mm semi auto pistols usually held 15-17. I can use standard capacity mags here in MA, but they have to be pre-ban, before the original assault weapon ban back in 1994. Now here in Ma, we have pre Healy guns too. It’s absurd.

When I bought my AK in CA down in Orange County it came with what look like a 30 round magazine but it was internally stopped at 10 rounds. When I bought my other AKs here in NC privately it came with 4 different size magazine which was weird. It came with a 5, 10, and two 30 round magazines.

Which in CA the AK I bought had a bullet button attached to it, and it was one of the first things I did once we moved to NC was to take that dang thing off.

Might want to rethink that one.

I hope the Supreme Court will stand up and make a ruling in support of the Second Amendment and put down some of the nonsense the restrictive states are imposing on legal gun owners. Hasn’t anyone in power figured out were not the problem?

there used to be tons of resources online where you could find details on how to kill yourself. he isnt wrong.

those sites have been censored for the most part from google searches now, but i am sure if someone was determined enough they could still find something.

guns just happen to be faster,  painless if done right, and in some ways easier to get than some of the other methods, like cyanide or CO canisters

People definitely can figure out other ways to kill themselves. I wasn't arguing that. I worked in ER way before there was an "online" and that part is not hard at all, and unfortunately for someone truly determined, there will be a way. However it is important to recognize that not everyone who is experiencing suicidal ideation is going to remain that way indefinitely. Certainly some do, but for many it is related to an immediate problem.

The wrong assumption here is that all suicides are planned. Many are spur of the moment and many involve a bad situation and/or excessive amounts of alcohol or drugs leading to a terrible decision. Guns do make that spur of the moment reaction easier. It's just a fact. It is also a fact that not everyone is destined to find another way. Many get through that time and then go on to live the rest of their lives.

Thank you. I have lost a friend to suicide in the past five years. I'm still furious with him every single day, even if I have so much compassion for why he thought he had to do it. He died from a single gunshot to the head. His estranged girlfriend found him the same day it happened. His suicide notes arrived by email a week later. He thought no one would notice he'd done it. He was wrong. He was loved and cherished and we all live with the pain of losing him. 50 of his friends gathered from around the country less than 48 hours after when the coroner said it was likely he'd killed himself. He was never alone, even if he thought he was.

A gun made it easier and more effective, but he had other routes. He had plenty of drugs in the home, and a lake of alcohol. But he didn't want to mess up, which is what he said in the note. He wanted out.

I also have friends who have teetered on the edge and clung on to living in the world. They were just as bad in their despair as my friend who shot himself. But someone reached out at the right time, or the ping of connection to others resonated in them enough to instruct: one more day. Just one more day.

Please look out for the signs of someone on the edge. In retrospect, I should have seen something was massively wrong with my friend. He'd lost a brilliant career from drug abuse, lost his girlfriend because he pushed her away, lost his beloved dog, lost a beautiful home not far from my own in Pasadena, all in less than a year. He always said he was fine, but there was a hard edge to him, a bitterness I'd never known. It wasn't just all his losses, though. Unknown to all his friends, he'd had a misery of a childhood, tortured by his father. 30 years on the planet living with that pain was too much.

You can't stop someone from doing what they're set on doing, but you can throw hurdles in their path, maybe enough hurdles to remind them of how much they are loved. How they are important, and their lives are meaningful. I think of him every day. It's true he would have found a route some other way but a gun just made it easier. It's one of the reasons why I won't allow a handgun in the house. Ever.
