Personal phone call from CIS to notify about case approval

I called the help line. The guy that picked up the phone was very nice, but of course he could not help me because the only thing that he had in front of him was the same web site that I am looking at. So, he transferred me to an officer (who was a real jerk). He told me not to trust the phonecall and to come to my appointment. At the same time, he said that he had no information on what the status of my case really was.

The most ridiculous thing is - I do not need to go to this appointment anyway. I have already received my EAD and I don't care about AP.

You are DORA so I'll bet most of the people going "weird!!!" on here aren't taking that into account. I'm sure things go differnetly with DORA so maybe these phone calls aren't so unusual.
I seen lots of people being denied just because they received an e-mail starting interview was cancelled. So, take you day off and go anyways.

This isn't relevant. They are DORA so already had their "interview". The appointment is just for the EAD/AP submission that usually happens if you get to the 70 day mark and it looks like you're not going to be approved within 90 days.

Perhaps people should read the OP's post and understand it before going off on tangents that aren't helpful.

Oopss! sorry

I don't think anyone has gone off on a tangent, the OP asked what we thought. We're suggesting since he/she already has an appt. why not go and make sure.

Even you state " I'm sure things go differnetly with DORA so maybe these phone calls aren't so unusual."

Hopefully someone has had a similar phone call and can clear this up :)

Perhaps you feel that way now but what if you are not approved?

I fail to see why people refuse to go to interview even if it's gets 'descheduled' or want to reschedule cuz they will be on their honeymoon, etc, etc. We all should take this immigration process very seriously. If you have a letter saying, go, then GO. Better safe than sorry, this is your legal status in America we are talking about!

Isn't this just the biggest F***up. Wishing you the best of luck and hopefully it's cleared up soon. Hoping they just haven't updated their website.

I did and realise she's DORA. I still don't trust USCIS enough to trust phone cancellations even for EAD & AP because it's been shown that one hand does not talk to the other, even within the same office! :)

I don't know, if I was the OP and the office is only 45 mins away, I'd still go even if I had my EAD in hand... perhaps I would even inquire about the status of my AOS while I was there. ;)

Believe me, I am taking this process very seriously. That is why I have applied for EAD the same day I applied for AOS (and this is why my EAD is already here). But my feeling about this appointment is a subject for a whole different topic. If the status of my case does not update at the end of this business day, I will definitely go there just to find out what the heck it was. Right now, I am more interested in finding out if anyone has ever received a legitimate phone call from CIS (or a prank one for that matter).

You seriously think the govt would prank call you over your immigration benefits?

You misunderstood me. I did not mean that the government would prank call me. I meant that some sick cruel person who knows me has decided to do this.

I found this post on another site. It's pretty old, but it gives me hope that this call may have been the real deal. In any case, if the status of my case does not change by the end of the day, I will go there on Monday.

I had numerous calls from our local service center because they screwed our AOS up but not "out of the blue".

I'd called them first!

I'd be skeptical in your case also!

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship
