Personal phone call from CIS to notify about case approval

Basically, I have received a phone call today from a local number. The lady introduced herself and told me she was from the immigration services. She said that my AOS case has been approved, and thus I didn't have to go to my EAD/AP appointment next week. I have not received any email notifications, and the status of my case online does not show any "touches" since May 4. So, now I am profoundly confused. Has anyone ever received a personall phone call from CIS notifying you of case approval? I have filed my case using DORA process, if this makes a difference.

that sounds rather bizarre to me.... I hope that you get confirmation b/4 you actually don't go to the appt. Best of luck and congrats if the approval is indeed done! Sounds promising, if not strange.

Did you do a reverse lookup on the phone number? I dunno, I would just go in on Tuesday anyway.

I have not told anyone that CIS has scheduled an appointment for me to come and submit my EAD/AP application. So, it cannot be a prank or a cruel practical joke played by one of my friends - they simply don't have this information. So, the phone call had to be from someone from CIS. The lady knew my first and last name, my phone number (obviously), and the date my appointment was scheduled. It just seems really odd that someone from CIS would bother enough to call me to tell me not to bother coming.

I would just call USCIS to confirm your appointment date before you decide just not to show up and also to see if you were approved.

Congratulations:)

I tried to do it, but the number comes up as "unlisted" or "unpublished". All I could get was that it was a landline either in Dallas or in Plano, TX

Actually, I did not schedule that appointment. They assigned it to me in my 70 day letter. So, I am not even sure who to call to confirm if it is still standing. I doubt that the information line would be able to help me with this.

I'd still show up. I don't trust USCIS to get things right especially when appointments are cancelled.

That is strange. My wife never had any appointments scheduled for EAD/AP. She got both of those three weeks before the AOS interview. They confiscated her EAD card at the interview.

Try calling the 800 number. You will never get a number for the office in Texas. I know the people at the 800 number check the internet first, but be persistent. You need to find out why this happened.

You are totally right

I seen lots of people being denied just because they received an e-mail starting interview was cancelled. So, take you day off and go anyways.

Good luck

You are DORA so I'll bet most of the people going "weird!!!" on here aren't taking that into account. I'm sure things go differnetly with DORA so maybe these phone calls aren't so unusual.

This isn't relevant. They are DORA so already had their "interview". The appointment is just for the EAD/AP submission that usually happens if you get to the 70 day mark and it looks like you're not going to be approved within 90 days.

Perhaps people should read the OP's post and understand it before going off on tangents that aren't helpful.
