Can someone explain what is lockbox and how it's functioning, please? we have sent the I-129f petition to the USCIS on 22 January 2021. I contacted with the USCIS personnel today and she replied that there is no record available related to our petition so it might be at the lockbox. So I wanna know what is the lockbox and why our petition has been shifted to the lockbox instead to the USCIS operational office ?

Lockbox is a mail opening and processing centet.  NOA1s are taking 4 to 8 weeks

Think of the lockbox like a mailroom. The only thing that happens there is the packet is delivered, gets added to a pile, and eventually is opened and the contents scanned. Because of Covid and holidays in the US, that mailroom is full of applications that have not been opened yet. They are probably sorting them into piles as they are received so right now, applications received in November and early December are getting opened and scanned.

Because you submitted in the middle of January, your application is sitting in a pile waiting to be opened. You will only hear from them when they have opened it, made sure everything is correct, and they scan your documents. If you call before they have done this they can't tell you anything, unfortunately.

It could easily be another month before you hear anything, but it does seem they are starting to move more quickly and work through the backlog so hopefully it will be faster than that. I hope you hear soon!

Your petition was not shifted to the lockbox.  You sent case to the lockbox, where it will be opened and transferred to the USCIS processing center (likely California).  Patience is the key for everyone.

Lockbox is a term used by USCIS for their intake facilities. Basically they're the place that does a first review of the forms (e.g. are the forms signed, is the payment amount correct, is the minimum evidentiary standard met, did the payment go through after depositing it). Then they scan them and send them along to the service center that has jurisdiction, once the service center gets the forms, then the service center issues a receipt notice.

If you sent it via something with tracking, you should first check if it was delivered, then you should check if the money order was cashed, or if they took money out of your account for check or card payment.

Contradictions without citations only make you look dumb.

well explained by demise and everyone. I have traced the mail tracking ID , The USPS claims that they deliver the documents at 5:30 am. so my question is how the USPS can deliver it at 5:30 am as it doesn't operate at that early time in the morning.? as regards the Cheque encashment i have asked from the services agency, they told me to wait for 5 working days.

If it says delivered I wouldn't worry about the time stamp. USPS works all sorts of hours and the time is just a scan - it's possible there's so much mail for the lockbox that it just gets scanned and put in a large container and that the container is then delivered.

As for your check being cashed, that won't happen until they get to your application. People in the November threads are reporting seeing the check/cheque cashed or card charged a few days before receiving NOA1 and WAC# and, as previously stated, they are only just now getting NOA1s.

It really sucks but all you can do now is trust it was delivered as it says and wait. Everyone here is in the same position so we understand.

Please review the January filers discussion. Even if you wait 5 working days and call back they still will not have a status on your case. The lockbox is delayed 6-8 weeks right now. They are only up to the beginning of December.

Do you have any link regarding to the January 2021 filers? if yes, please share with me.

It's here but you can use the search function to find the threads for filing by month too. There's one from December filers and November etc.

How I Wished it was only 6-8 weeks.  Mine was received Nov 23rd (USA) at Lockbox  we only got wac# today. So it took us almost 12 weeks. There are thousands taking 11-12 weeks right now.  You have no choice but to be patient. Our check was not cashed till feb 10th
