Wednesday morning update (Sept 29)

  • 82 cases processed yesterday
  • Mix of 2/1 through 2/9
  • 220 processed in the last week (since 9/22)

You can see they have mostly been working by range in order (so also by date for the most part) if you look at the % processed column. Looking at other months, the pattern seems to be they get a certain part of the way into one range and start on the next so we should see more movement into the later ranges this week and next.

As always, spreadsheet here.

Ugh, 230 days!  The wait is killing me.  I just got back from Russia.  I was really hoping we'd get approval notification while I was visiting....  Congratulations to all those who have been approved!!  I really hope this is the longest step in the process.

Hello. I am new here. I am feb filer. My received date was feb 1st and we received the notification on March 15 but on the noa1, received date was feb 1st.

I saw the timeline spreadsheet and it's really helpful to find out where our case is at. But I am still confused of the randomness about the noa2. How come is noa2 delivered to people randomly regardless of  the date of noa1.

People who filed after me already got approval and I have not yet. Does anyone here know what order they are following? is it case number or date of noa1? Does country beneficiary is from matter?

Thank you in advance!

Welcome! There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that we don't know about. What we do know is that there are many people who work on cases and some cases are easier than others to approve (have all info, from a low risk country, are not 300 pages long etc) so if an agent gets several "easy" in a row they will be running ahead.

Also, according to one person who works on cases, they can set them aside to come back to later. So let's say someone gets a case they know is going to take a lot of time and they have a headache or just had a difficult case and just "don't wanna," they can set it to the side and move on to a different case. Additionally, some countries have higher rates of fraud so they do take more time on the evidence for those.

There's also the suspicion that they take a few cases from a couple of months ahead to process so they can say they're staying within an acceptable timeline (for example, a bunch of Feb 25 cases were approved 2 months ago). Unfortunately there's nothing to do but wait.

If you are Feb 1 you are now outside of processing times (currently Feb 7) and can submit an inquiry.

Thank you for your response and welcoming.

I see..... My fiance submitted an inquiry yesterday so we'll see how it goes and hope we can get noa2 soon.

Thank you for your input.

No problem! It's frustrating for sure.

Looks like they are about 50% of the way through Feb 1 NOA1s so hopefully you'll hear very, very soon! Canada is a low-risk country so I doubt that's slowed you down. It's probably just (bad) luck of the draw. Check the case tracker app or the spreadsheet for cases around you. I've noticed patterns in processing for sure.

No, I won’t agree with that. Our case is genuinely easy. No divorces, no kids, no crimes, we put everything in order, checked every box correctly (we have photos of everything we sent and I was reviewing it for past months, we have clear proof we met, clear other proofs. We didn’t put too much stuff in there and yet nothing. And im sure some people who got approved had something a lot heavier than our case. So I’m guessing the only thing that can be a problem is that our embassy is closed

Yes it's very frustrating😅

Thanks! I will keep eye on the sheet. I believe my case is easy one but they judge it, not me so at this point, I just need to calm down and just be patient like others....

Oh! For sure! I wasn't trying to say that some cases don't get dropped. They obviously do. There are always going to be some that for an unknown reason get passed over, even when they're easy. I have a friend who has a friend (!) who works for USCIS and did some digging for me on how they work on cases so I do think a lot of it is to do with the stuff I shared but there are definitely other reasons too!

I don't know if embassy closures are a reason for not processing . . . seems like they should process and then the petitioner understands there will be a delay from NVC to embassy. But like any government agency (or most businesses, for that matter) there are inefficiencies and probably some workers who don't much care or are having a bad day and take it out on the work.

Hoping yours comes soon. They've been doing a lot of Feb 8 cases this week!

Actually I believe embassy is the reason for them because a lot of Russians get some news after some proper form other countries as I did some research. But I’m just so frustrated.
But with all the frustration- I’m with my fiancé now in cancun for two weeks and that’s all I can ask in my life tbh
