I wouldn't stay in a hurricane, but a neighbor did.  He said it was freaky scary.  Wind gusts up to about 170 mph, and where do you hide a car when there is so much water?  The older homes built before the better codes were hurt the most and almost 500 were totally destroyed.  House next to me lost a large portion of the roof.

 

Good hurricane shutters and a metal hip roof have become a necessity.

Do you live in the Keys year round? The reason I ask is I see Naples as your city and over the years I have known a few people from Naples. Quite a few people from here have moved there.

No, I don't live in the Keys year round.  I'm still a working stiff and Naples is home,  but I work Monday thru Thursday and the Keys are just a few hours away so at least one weekend a month we drive down after work.  Also most of the major holidays where we get another day we go.

 

Now I have my son-in-law working with me so we can take a little more time when we want.  Next Wednesday after work we are going for a longer weekend.  Got some of our Russian friends that will go too.

We are facing the issue of climate change here in NC. We have had 3 days of literally freezing rain and the temperatures hovering all day in the 30's. Where we would have snow now we just have rain. I might need a pontoon boat to get to work on Tuesday

I mean it was high today being about 39 degrees during the day. But it was surreal yesterday driving the 60 miles to my mom's house and it was sitting about 32 during the day with ice on all the trees, and it was still raining.
