Filed N400 last year.

I want to visit Cuba this year. I have always wanted to since I took World History in secondary school. I just love history. Planning of visiting E. Europe and the Balkans next year.

I read the 12 guidelines and I think I fit number 5 or 8. Similarly, I have my Kenyan PP that I can use.

1. Family visits
2. Official business of the U.S. government, foreign governments, and certain intergovernmental organizations
3. Journalistic activity
4. Professional research and professional meetings
5. Educational activities
6. Religious activities
7. Public performances, clinics, workshops, athletic and other competitions, and exhibitions
8. Support for the Cuban people
9. Humanitarian projects
10. Activities of private foundations or research or educational institutes
11. Exportation, importation, or transmission of information or information materials
12. Certain authorized export transactions

Question: Is it wise to go before my N400 or wait till after N400? I just don't want USCIS drama.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

Unless Biden already canceled this one, don't go.

The Trump administration is designating Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism in a move that will return the island nation to the pariah list from which it was removed five years ago.

Thanks for this. I guess I'll just look for something else to do.

Not worth the risk at all especially with Covid and travel restrictions all over still being a thing. Not to mention the creepy Havana syndrome illness that was going on there. I think Cuba is a fascinating place and I'd love to go there myself someday but it just doesn't make sense to travel there right now especially if you have a pending N-400. Traveling there during Covid would just look even more suspicious in my opinion (unless you have some emergency reason to go there.)

I went through this website a while back and saw the COVID notices. I was hoping to travel later this year when COVID goes down.

N400 was my kicker. I don't want to screw things up and end up being asked a lot of questions by USCIS yet all I wanted to do was go walk around.

I guess I'll have to postpone till another time. 😪 ouch

I know Americans who went more than 5 u=years ago, seemed just a paper work exercise to comply with the exemptions.

With your sort of timeline seems reasonable to assume that Biden will rescind the current restrictions by then.

With the issues with Cuba regardless of the administration and with the pandemic going on?... I am no geopolitical operative nor am I a health expert, but it seems pretty clear to me that while waiting for an n400 application this would be a potentially bad move.

Generally speaking while waiting for n400 and especially with covid the rule is not to travel unless there is an emergency and/or it is essential. Then one needs to take into consideration the country they plan on visiting.
