Financial Hardships - K1 Visa Expedite Request

This has been posted plenty, but I figured I would ask. 

 

I am currently sending money, and have been to my fiancé for about 1 year and a half soon. The embassy looks to be not opening soon, so I will have to keep sending for a while it seems because she cannot find a job. Even then will all this Covid stuff who knows when they will open fully, and really start processing cases. On top of this, I am making less money at my job because of Covid and I am currently trying to get another, but Covid has slowed all the recruiting processes as well, so who knows when I will get another job. I am worried that I will not have enough money for myself, and more concerning to send to her to live. It would be way less of a burden if she was here, and I didn't have to send almost 1000 dollars a month there. We could be saving some of that money living together. Not sure if this would work, or be grounds to expedite, but I figured I would ask someone who might know here. I have joint sponsor's ready to do all the paperwork for the embassy stage once we get there, so that should not be an issue. Maybe other people have similar situations, but really what I am supposed to do if I can't send her anymore money, and she doesn't have money to survive.

Pretty much everyone goes through this or a very similar situation.   In reality, you have made a voluntary decision to send support.

If the embassy is not open, there is no reason to expedite.  They will not process or proceed until they open.  Futhermore, in some countries, sending 1000.00 a month to a fiance will question a bonafide relationship.  In addition, your fiance will have to make due with the reduced amount of money you send.  100% of everyone in the US is having to manage with reduced income, your fiance should not be an exception.  If you choose to get a 2nd job to support your fiance, that is your choice.  You already have limited funds as you need a co-sponsor.

Yeah I lived there for about 8 months so I would say its more of a relationship than you probably had when you did a similar process.

Claiming financial hardship is a double edge stone when it comes to the K1. Be very careful going down this path as you can get your interview and they deny it due to lack of finances.

I get that you're under a lot of stress, but really there's no reason to lash out at people trying to help you put it in perspective. It's rough for a lot of people right now, even people who used to be in fairly comfortable positions. And of course you want to be there for your fiancée and help her financially. But put yourself in the consulate's shoes: what does it look like when your resources are low enough that you're worried about supporting yourself, let alone her? 

 

One of the things I have learned in life is that no matter how much we care for other people and love them and want to keep them safe, unless it's your child you're talking about, you only have responsibility for yourself, your health and your happiness. She needs to step up some right now, too. Does she not have anyone else who can help her right now -- a family member or a friend to move in with? $1000 can go a long way if you're not paying rent. (Trust me, I have been in that situation.) If she can economize, even if she can't find a job right now, she can probably make money stretch further. Do you know what she's spending it on? Does it seem reasonable to you? How would you spend it if you were there, given that you lived 8 months there?

 

As others have said, an expedite is really unlikely in the circumstances. I know this is very hard right now. I wish the best for you.

Here's the reality of your situation.  You are barely making enough because you need a Joint Sponsor, yet you are choosing to send her $1000 a month.  This is a personal choice.  It's not going to get you an expedite.  

Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear.  No reason to lash out at people telling you the truth.

sending money to a loved one is what we think is normal as Americans being 'in love'"

and even continue to send money to the immigrant's family after he/she comes to the USA as many countries are poor

 

but the harsh truth is immigration sees this as the immigrant using the USC for money -ask any immigration attorney concerning that 

its the way they feel / not us

so writing to immigration saying you're going belly up to help her will backfire

and i hope you didn't include copies of western union receipts in your I 129 to show this as a relationship

 

and begs the questions

how will you afford the plane ticket to bring her

how will you afford her health care insurance

how will you afford the AOS process

 

this is not cheap,  fast or easy 

and its a burden we all assume when making the decision to marry

I also think you are underestimating the cost of her being here too. You won’t save that much of your $1000 that you are currently sending each month. She will need healthcare. She won’t be eligible for any public assistance so you will have to pay for healthcare at current marketplace prices for her. My employer covers my premiums but to add my husband onto my plan costs $450 a month for the cheapest option. And that’s just the premiums. Then there are the extra groceries, general consumables, etc. She won’t be eligible to make any money here at all for many, many months. And that includes selling crafts on Etsy, casual babysitting for cash, helping out a friend or family member in return for goods or services. So if she needs a new pair of shoes, wants to buy a book, needs to take an Uber someplace...it’s all on you. 
 

This then begs the question of why someone with a spare grand to send overseas each month needs a joint sponsor. Does the joint sponsor realize they are making a contract with the government, potentially for the rest of their natural life, that could see them sued for thousands?

Where is she from? Maybe try talking to her about sending less money, until things get better for you.

but i would ask others to consider the total cost to marry and bring someone here and understand not only the fees but the visits ,etc

 

things they don't consider like "the future costs after coming"   in my case it was an additional $477 to add him to my health care plan

and i did share my tax return with him before he came as i added him as MFJ and married ,  to me,  this is  a shared return

 

and sending him a few hundred to learn to drive before he came saved me a ton as a driving instructor here is $85 an hour

 

and to this OP "is the woman of child bearing age?"

as it is well over $12000 a year now to raise a child /  look into the internet to see these figures as they go up when the child becomes a teenager
