Medical timing advice

My wife and I filed for AOS (from B2) in December of 2020, and we did so without submitting the medical. Since we have recently received our biometrics appointment, it's gotten us thinking about when to get the medical done. It's likely my wife will need vaccinations, as she has proof for only a few of them, and the local civil surgeon is currently scheduling appointments a month from now. Is the medical something we should get done now, or should we wait for the RFE? If we wait for the RFE, how much time will we have to respond if they decide to ask for it to be mailed in instead of brought to the interview?

We don't want to get the medical done too early, as it's only valid for 2 years, but we don't want to be scrambling to get it done on a short timeline after getting an RFE or interview appointment.

What is the best practice on this these days?

What do you consider a scramble?  RFEs give you 87 days to respond and interview notices are about 5 weeks in advance

YMMV

I just happened to stumble across the i-693 as part of the i-485 package on Visa Journey and wondered when to submit the i-693. Slightly annoyed because I spoke to an immigration attorney and was told nothing about this form. Thank god for Visa Journey!

My question is now, can I send the i-485 without this i-693 medical form and then bring it completed to the interview? Or can I send the i-485 and then later down the line send in the i-693 separately? With COVID, I am worried about the wait time to get Doctors appointment as we are sending the paperwork soon.

Thanks in advance

Yes, you can definitely send in the I-485 without the I-693 (medical). In fact, it's probably advisable to not get the medical right away, and certainly don't delay filing the I-485 because of it.

That's good context. I think those numbers are a touch tight given the 1 month scheduling advance the medical folks currently need, but not too bad. Is the best practice to wait for one of those notices, then?
