I recieved an email from them saying that they are not processing k1 at the moment only focusing on other visas most likely as a strategy to catch up. I'll call the NVC and Email them today to see if K1s are specifically being processed and not just K1s that previously had an interview appointment before covid.

Lol good luck getting that answer. Let me guess, they will give you an autocanned answer

Hopefully not as it depends on who reads or answers the call. The last call I made to the NVC a representative told me that the embassy was pulling other visas but not k1. I agree that most representatives probably would just give you a generic answer.

Stay put and do not do anything; Nairobi Embassy is back to normal operations as from Jan 15th; just don't expect a public announcement about it.

Regardless, any petition at NVC will not be scheduled before all the ones that were cancelled.  That could take months and months.

So was it your plan to move to Uganda after the wedding and live there permanently?  And the only reason you did a K-1 was to allow him to enter the US to meet your family?  Just curious.

We eventually wanted to be in Uganda most if not all the time. The K1 route would allow him to meet my relatives and if ever we had to  come back to the states for an emergency  while living in Uganda,  he would have the freedom to come with me to the US. So we expected to go through the whole process including the AOS when he can work ( another bonus) and travel abroad. We were prepared to stay in the states for the time it took to achieve this. Afterwards we were going to head back to Uganda and occasionally visit the States. So K1 acts as a security blanket for us that we won't have when we give up the k1.

Just got off the phone with an NVC representative and she confirmed that the Kenyan Embassy is not pulling any K1 visas from the NVC. Also the Embassy sent me this:

Please note that we cannot provide timelines for this.

All  applicants will inevitably experience delays in scheduling because the backlog of cases created due to the pandemic. Embassy Nairobi is also interviewing limited number of applicants due to reduced staffing and social distancing rules.

I think you may have a misunderstanding of how the K1 visa works. It does not allow for emergency visits in and out of the US. The K1 would be a one-time use visa. It will be voided after he uses it to enter the US the first time. The you would need to adjust his status so he can become a permanent resident. But the requirement for permanent resident is that he mean make the US his home residence. So him using it as a method to go back and forth between here and his home country is not going to work. He would need a tourist visa for that.

The K1 visa is not a super tourist visa.
