My I-129f was approved and sent over to the NVC last month. This morning I woke up to an email from the NVC stating that they had received my case and given it a case number. However, the screwed up and assigned the case not only to the wrong consulate, but to the wrong country. They assigned the case to London, with a LND number, but my fiancee is a citizen of and lives in China. She was a student in London when we filed the petition but we put on the I-129f form that she will be doing her interview in Guangzhou, China. Is there a way to fix this error? Should I simply call them? Does anybody know what the turnaround time on that will be? I appreciate any advice.

Yes.  Call them.  Is Guangzhou even doing k1 interviews?

YMMV

I'll be sure to give them a call tomorrow if they open since they are closed today from the storm. Guangzhou consulate is open but not doing interviews currently. Only for CR-1's. However, I herd that changing your consulate location can take a long time. Is this only after the case is shipped? If everything is still at the NVC, should it be an easy fix?

If you intercept at NVC there's no difference.   I think it should be an easy fix, but it is the government

YMMV

That was my hope. I know NVC can been very slow and inefficient. I just hope that since it's still docked at NVC, they can simply changed it in the system. The whole thing just makes me frustrated because I reviewed the I-129f that I sent in and it has both China and Guangzhou as the interview locations. Fingers crossed that this can be resolved in a timely manner.

Unfortunately they don't ever look at that part of the petition.   The assign based on living address

YMMV

Sounds about right. Ironic that they took the time to put that section in the I-129f form, probably specifically for cases like ours, but the NVC just doesn't bother to check. I appreciate your help! Hopefully they will be open by tomorrow.

Best thing is to send them an email via public inquiry form with proof of residence and ask to be re-assigned. You can call in addition, but they will ask for proof of residence to be submitted via public inquiry form so it's best to get that on the way before you call.

Thanks for the heads up! We included a copy of her passport in the I-129f packet. Could I have them use that or are they going to require my fiancee to send further proof? I'm assuming another copy of her passport will suffice?

I’m going to be in your situation very soon as well. I was studying in the Netherlands at the time of filing but I recently went back to my home country. I’m planning to just send a copy of my passport again (also had one in the 129f packet). I think it’s more than enough. Let us know here once you manage to change the consulate!:)

How is the passport a proof of residency? You need something that shows the name and address.

You don't need to prove residency to your country of nationality, you only need proof of it, which a passport does very well.

YMMV

Why would you have to prove you have a right to reside in a country you’re a citizen of?

You're right. I was thinking that you have to proof that you have the right to interview in a different country but of course you're always good to go in your home country. Sorry it was early for me 🙈
