It kind of makes sense because they are leaving 5k of troops in the Capitol for the time being due to some unrealistic threat

Gonna be a whole lot of buyers' remorse among Biden voters very soon, if not already...

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Often been a focus because that certain unnamed individual made a huge campaign issue of draining the swamp and bringing in good people, neither of which ever happened.

I don't think so. I'd hoped for a better candidate than Biden, but there will be no buyers remorse over the choice between Biden and Trump. Not on the left anyway.

If that's the current hope and prayer being pushed by the GOP, it would seem to be one more contrived excuse made up so they can avoid fixing their own problems. There is no other answer than to do that, and procrastination won't make it any easier.

The GOP will not fix their own problems just as the Democrats (and yes, the Dems also have major problems), but unfortunately the Dems are in power and able to grow the swamp, and of course they had the best candidate for that purpose.

Then it doesn't look all that good. Like I said, they have a decent shot at taking the house in 2022. They will lose senate seats in 2022, but they can gain seats in the senate in 2024. None of that matters if they cant make the move away from Trumpism.

I disagree though, I actually think they do realize what they need to change, and I think they will take steps towards that. The writing is on the wall. They won in 2016. It's hard to change yourself when you win, because everything seems to be working even if it wasn't. It is easier to look in the mirror after a loss and realize what needs to change.

Both parties want power above all else. We went through a period where it seemed like extremism was the easiest way to do that and polarization was apparent everywhere. I think we have seen that you can't appeal to enough people that way, you can't get anything done, and you can only tolerate a certain amount of crazy before you realize that crazy people don't represent you, even if they share some of your ideals. I think we have reached the point where people want to go back towards normal. If acting normal becomes the means to the end, both parties can do it.

If the GOP returns to their neocon roots, then they will lose a lot of populist support that Trump brought into the Party.  I really don't think they will re-take the House in 2022, but that will depend on how bad the Dems do over the next 1+ year.  If the Dems do pass through their GND costing millions of jobs, it may be different, but I don't think they will do that.  In the end, we shall see, but I don't really see a lot of Dems crossing over to vote GOP just to keep a balance.
