https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jan/30/who-urges-britain-to-pause-covid-jabs-after-treating-vulnerable

The World Health Organization has urged the UK to pause its vaccination programme after vulnerable groups have received their jabs to help ensure the global rollout of doses is fair.

Boris Johnson has said he aims to offer all adults in the UK a first dose by autumn. However, the WHO said countries should be aiming for 2bn doses to be “fairly distributed” around the world by the end of 2021.

A WHO spokeswoman, Margaret Harris, said she wanted to appeal to people in the UK, telling them: “You can wait” because ensuring equitable global distribution is “clearly morally the right thing to do”.

From a UK media source so UK is mentioned but I assume similar appeals have gone out.

Not sure Boris will go along, maybe Biden?

Certainly complicates the EU position, I think the timing was coincidental.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-55860540

The World Health Organization (WHO) has criticised the EU's announcement of export controls on vaccines produced within the bloc, saying such measures risked prolonging the pandemic.

The EU introduced the measure amid a row with vaccine manufacturers over delivery shortfalls.

But WHO vice-head Mariangela Simao said it was a "very worrying trend".

Earlier WHO chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said "vaccine nationalism" could lead to a "protracted recovery".

Speaking at the Davos Agenda - a virtual version of the global summit - he said vaccine hoarding would "keep the pandemic burning and... slow global economic recovery", in addition to being a "catastrophic moral failure" that could further widen global inequality.

Don't know but there was a HUGE deal yesterday when the EU invoked a rule which says the vaccine could not be imported from Ireland into Northern Ireland, which would really reaaallly complicate the whole GFA. Couple hours of outcry and I think they backed down. It's concerning when the UK has been busy vaccinating the elderly, but other countries are suddenly saying there's no evidence the vaccine works in the elderly at all.

They did back down with major egg on face.

I saw a report about efficacy in aged but was one drug that had not been tested on that group.

I can not imagine there would be a suffen cut off, could that various factors would have a positive or negative effect.

Easiest way to exemplify this is to give them to the caravans of Hondureños and Salvadoreños soon to approach our southern border, thus facilitating their faster entry.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

We have done post vaccine antibody testing on people as old as 67. It certainly seems to elicit a good immune response, although there are  other factors involved in fighting off the actual infection. Based on what I have seen, I would rather have the vaccine at that age than take my chances with the virus.

I thought it had been settled as to it's effectiveness, so it's pretty odd when Germany and France seemed to object about it.

I agree. I know the reason we are giving the vaccine to older people first is because we do understand our immune systems get weaker as we age. It's why older people are at most risk from Covid, but it's also why older people will benefit the most from getting the vaccine. I really thought that logic applied to almost any vaccine.

Speaking overnight, the vaccines minister, Nadhim Zahawi, talked about collaborating with the EU, saying Britain had gone “out of our way” to help the bloc with vaccines supplies and “will continue to do so”.

In a series of interviews on Sunday, Truss reiterated this point, while stressing that any moves to send some of the 367m vaccine doses the government has ordered to other countries would only be done if it did not affect the UK vaccination timetable.

So there has been some compromise.

My 86 year old Mom got her 1st dose of the Pfizer vaccine about a week and a half ago.  She said exactly the same " I would rather take my chance on the vaccine, than risk getting a severe case of Covid".  They had a 100% participation rate for the residents of the assisted living facility where she is.
