I applied for my mother AOS in December and now I am now looking to enroll her in a health plan and I am looking for advice.

Is it better for her to wait until she receives her green card to enroll in a health plan? I am not sure if she needs to be enrolled before her interview and I saw someone mention here that if she files her taxes without a health plan she would have to pay a penalty for it. Does anyone have information about it?

I contacted the marketplace and they told me most likely she could apply using the NOA receipt and a copy of her passport but she wasn't entirely sure. Anyone got coverage using those documents?

With the whole public charge stuff does anyone knows if she receives any kind of discount on the marketplace would that impact her GC application?

Thanks 😊

Open enrollment is closed.   Does she qualify for one of special circumstances?

YMMV

I thought Biden was reopening it?

Yup

This SEP will allow individuals and families in states with Marketplaces served by the HealthCare.gov platform to enroll in 2021 health insurance coverage. Beginning February 15, 2021 and through May 15, 2021, these Marketplaces will operationalize functionality to make this SEP available to all Marketplace-eligible consumers who are submitting a new application or updating an existing application. State-based Marketplaces (SBMs) operating their own platform have the opportunity to take similar action within their states.
