I m currently living in Australia on student visa that is going to expire soon. I just had a query that whether US Consulate in Sydney will interview an applicant (given there is no ban on issuing visas) who is not an Australian citizen but is on a bridging Visa. Or its better if I apple for some sort of Temporary work permit (will cost me A$1650).

Interview an applicant for what?  If you are F2A as your profile says, you presumably won’t know for ages when your interview is, interviews haven’t even restarted for this category yet.
