DS 5535 Processing Times

Hi. Im trying to better understand the average time it takes to be approved (K-1 Visa) after being asked to complete the DS 5535 form. My fiance completed it 4 weeks ago at the US Embassy in Nairobi. She was told "everything was okay" but they didn't keep her passport. Is it normal for them to sometimes not keep your passport in situations of compleing the DS 5535 because this form is known to take time?

Brother, it’s at this level, they are not supposed to keep the passport until all the information provided in the form has been verified. As you know, the form is lengthy and will undergo AP that takes some time to complete. Imagine a case where you forget a phone number used 3 years ago or skipped a one year employment period!!! Mine was a different form but similar yet it took 8-10 months before I sent enquiries and received a response. Best of luck ndugu!

From researching it on VJ it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 years. 
Basically a black box.

Yes. We are still waiting. Contacted the embassy yesterday and they said they can not estimate how long it will take. They said rest assured they will contact us on next steps once it is done.  How about you?
