Yeah, file and forget is the best way, enter lottery in meanwhile, if it happens great, if not see what everyone wants to do in 15-20 years time. Could well be it still works out and they move, might be that many things have changed and they don’t.

Know a number of immigrants who have given up universal healthcare etc for a chance to live in the sunshine. Find it strange when people question other people’s motives for immigrating as though everyone is expected to have the same hierarchy of preferences.

It’s just quite unusual to see a chain migration situation for western countries with higher quality of life than even the US.

“Quality of life” is subjective. It’s really interesting the number of people I know personally who have made a move for weather and compromised on other things.

Yes, it is subjective, but there are objective metrics used to evaluate quality of life around the world, such as maternal/infant mortality, birthrate, wages, life expectancy, access to education, access to food and water, etc.

I'm not saying entire families don't immigrate from countries which rate high for those things, but it is significantly more unusual than for people from countries that lack such resources.

Well personally I think both hubby and I would have preferred he moved to Aus, the lifestyle is 1000% better there, but on the down side everything is far more expensive...

the deciding factor in our case was migration policies.... it’s a lot easier and way cheaper to get into the USA than it is into AUS even as a spouse.. the UK is getting similar with their points system too, so perhaps chain migration from western countries will become more common as other countries continue to tighten security rather than loosen it.

in the mean time I think one of the big factors is family culture, western countries are more inclined to let kids fly the nest and be free 😁 encouraging their kids to explore and travel etc where as many other cultures are still very heavily invested in close family bonds, sharing households etc so when they do move here they want to or are even expected to bring their family along for the ride
