K1 visa + CRBA interview

Anybody get an expedited K1 interview in Manila based on a CRBA interview being scheduled?

I've seen online some couples go through this process, but their K1 case was already transferred to the US Embassy in Manila before the CRBA process was started.

Our K1 case is at NVC, so I'm wondering if they would send it to Manila if we have a CRBA interview scheduled, anyone in the same situation as us?

You need to request and get the consulate to approve.  Then they will request the file from NVC.  It is not automagic.

YMMV

IIRC, @AlaMike's fiancee did.  Actually, the US embassy in Manila will consider expedites for K1 applicants with US citizen children, even if the child already has CRBA.  Go ahead and send your expedite request to USEM (not NVC).

I am not sure how one has anything to do with the other as they are completely different processes. You could always request. If you already have a CRBA appointment I doubt you will get a response back on an expedite request in time. I know with our CRBA we got the appointment about 2 1/2 weeks after sending the documents. If you have not already done so, I suggest getting the child's Philippines passport the same day that you have the CRBA appointment since they are not too far apart.

The K1 expedite qualification is actually based on needing to travel to the US with a US citizen child, not on having a CRBA appointment.  So even K1 applicants with kids who already have US passport may qualify for interview expedite.  For those going for CRBA, USEM may schedule the CRBA appointment and the K1 interview on the same day.  But I agree with you that if the CRBA appointment is happening soon, the expedite response might not make it on time.  Still worth a try.

We did our 2 son's CRBA at the very end of February 2020. We received their CRBA and passports about 4 months later. Your child will not even be able to travel to US without those that's why I do not believe that a expedite is warranted at this point.

I'm guessing the the OP wants to have the appointments the same day due to wanting to avoid two trips to the embassy.  Understandable, especially if they are far away and with all the travel restrictions.

@Trompie  It can't hurt to try.  Maybe someone will have some mercy even though it does not fit the normal expedite request parameters.  If the travel is expensive and endangers the health of the family, mention all of this in your request.  I hope you get lucky!

Also, I heard that NCR is going back to GCQ on Feb. 1, so even more restrictions.

Since you did CRBA in Feb 2020, weren't you hit by the embassy closure last year?  Getting a US passport probably won't take as long now, with ACS being USEM's highest priority.  I highly recommend OP try for K1 expedite asap.  Unlike you and I, OP's case is not in a mission-critical category.  Since the COVID closures, K1 visa issuance numbers at USEM have dropped to < 20% of pre-COVID levels.  The K1 backlog must be huge.  Meanwhile, CR1/IR1 issuance numbers are back at or even slightly higher than pre-COVID levels.

No need for OP to do much begging :D  According to the list of K1 expedite qualifications put out by USEM (assuming they haven't changed it since October) --

"The Embassy is prioritizing the following K applicants:  [...]

  • K1 applicants waiting for visa appointments in order to travel to the U.S. with their U.S. citizen child."

Hopefully, they can send their expedite request soon and it will be attended to early enough to allow for the interview to be scheduled on the day of their CRBA appointment.  If not, at least they still have a high chance of getting an expedited interview.

When was this published? Is it recent?  Do you have a link?

Yes, I first saw this shared in the K1 facebook group. It is listed as grounds for an expedited K1 interview, along with 2 or 3 other reasons such as Military etc.

For K1 applicants with cases already at the Embassy awaiting interview, it appears they were in some cases able to get a dual K1 / CRBA interview.

I have reached out to the Embassy, I'll update when I hear back from them what there response is to my situation. I'm going to assume they will tell me to wait until our baby has her passport already before they will request our K1 from NVC, but will have to see what they say.

Our daughter is already 3 months + as it has been a long process to get the birth certificate, we had to send documents back and forth from the US to PH and I had to go into a PH consulate in person to acknowledge paternity.

The list was in an email from USEM reported by another VJ member.  The link is on my post above.

Update on this topic is you have to request NVC to send your case to the Embassy, not vice versa.

Sorry to say but that is the bureaucratic BS template they have concocted to keep people running around in circles now and it is not true. IF you request the NVC to expedite and send your case to the USEM MNL they have about 50 different BS Political based none-sense "Covid" templates they will attach in response but they all boil down to one thing and that is essentially "the USEM MNL has to request your case"

and then on the other hand IF you request the USEM MNL to expedite and request your case from the NVC they also have about 50 different BS Political based none-sense "Covid" templates they will attach in response but they all boil down to one thing and that is essentially "We do not have your case here at the USEM MNL it seems it is still at the NVC, try contacting the NVC to request your case sent to the USEM MNL"

This is now the three ring circus, monkey show that Political "Covid" BS and people giving into the fear mongering, panic and "what if" has wrought ;) Enjoy lol
