I hate HFCS too but since I cook a lot I've been able to avoid it. My husband's also been avoiding HFCS for a few years himself so he knows which brands have HFCS or not. It's freaking ridiculous that it's in some cans of plain beans too. #######?

Im such a bad American living in Canada..LOL

guilty of: "monoply money", not taking shoes off, calling hockey boring, saying wine gums are the "nastiest thing ever", cutting the wrong end off the bag of milk, having no clue how to work a kettle..LOL ...(BTW....my Canadian husband prefers to make his tea in the microwave..tea bag and water in mug 2 minutes on high)

The kettle thing is strange. My wife always had one (she's the American) and so did my 2 different roomates before. So maybe its just a certain part of the country that they don't use them. In the west they do and every appliance type store sells them.

Oh and don't make silly faces when she orders Gravey on her fries in public or say to the waitress it's because she's Canadian. I have a friend who everytime I order it says to the waitress (He's Canadian). I then correct him and inform him the gravey on fries is a British thing that Canadians adopted. Still doesn't stop him from saying it every single time.

So just don't question the fact that brown gravey on fries is just the same as ketchup. Now if they put vinegar on fries, then you can make strange faces and wonder what planet they came from...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

mmm i love Chicken Friend Chicken <makess note to get some for Nancy>

Yah, dicussions we have had so far about her becoming an American Citizen havent gone to well so far <rubbing my scars> if she had to give up her Canadian Citizenship, so I'm learning to leave that one alone :D

So I guess I'm going to have to buy a real good kettle then, any suggestions as all the ones we saw sucked, money is no object, the sky is the limit to keep her happy

Keep em coming at this rate I will be the best American hubby a Canuckian could ever want!!

Sincerely,

Ramos

I tried to order Gravy at Wendy's here in the US.. they said "we don't carry gravy".. I was stunned I had NO clue what to say!! A girl needs her gravy every now and again!

Yah gravy is a weird item in America, its mostly at sit down places you can get it at. So what exactly is this Poutine you all talk about? And smoked meat, is that like beef jerky or BBQ to us Texans?

Canadians like BROWN gravy, not that pale, thick, flour mush, nasty vomitity (new word) looking stuff.

Better start looking for the packages of it

Not from me, I think it's cheese curd.

I like gravy, but I don't like those cheese curds floating around on top of it *gag*

AND I wish we could get bbq like you guys have. I have to go to the butchers just to find plain brisket. I do NOT want cornbeef brisket.

I make brown gravy just from Lipton's french onion soup sometimes.

Suppose they don't have that down there either UGHHHHHHHH

I was pretty surprised when I heard about the kettle thing too. Bee's family has a nice stove kettle which I used almost every day when I went to visit them, but then again they're all tea drinkers. :D

What is this "white gravy" stuff I hear about? I'm really, really frightened... I hope they don't serve that for Thanksgiving!

When she says "Thank you", don't ever say "Uh huh." The response is "You're welcome."

Thank you. wink.gif

OMG! That totally drives me up the wall!

I mean, how many more syllables is it to say "Thank you" than it is to say "uh huh"!

I guess white gravy would be common for someone that, y'know, is familiar with that kind of thing. I guess we just don't see it up here and we're surprised when we do.

Difference in opinions! Who would've thunk it?
