Hi,

I have filed the AOS and now I have nothing else to do but wait.

I have come across some ESL - English As Second Language courses offered by several schools in my area. I reached out to them to better understand fees and schedules and all of them told me that this program is free for immigrant adults or anyone else whose English is a second language.  Apparently this program is founded by the State where I live.

I do not know what to do. Is it something that can mess up with the Public Charge Rule?

Not an issue

Not an issue at all. My now wife took a bunch is ESL courses while her AOS was pending. Now she is a LPR and everything has been fine. No issues at the AOS interview.

I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!

Thank you for your reply, Loren. May I ask you if the courses were for free? That's my first concern. The last thing I want is to use something that can compromise the I-944...

Yes, they were offered for free. It was sponsored by the local salvation army. They had a classroom setting and it was like 4 days a week as I recall. My wife would go Monday thru Thursday. She learned how to use the local bus system and it gave her something to do while waiting for EAD AP card. She also took courses so she could get a license she needed from the State of Nevada. Kept her busy for sure, but better than sitting around all day being bored. Since she was here in a K1, it definitely helped her out the first 5 months until EAD AP card showed up, then she had a job lined up the day the card arrived. She actually started the day we received the approval notice for the EAD AP card.
