Hello,

I have a question about passports. My fiance is Moroccan. We are currently waiting on our NOA 2. If all goes well and he is approved to come here, his passport would expire in 2022. How would he renew that for future travel to Morocco if he's not physically in Morocco? Or would he be able to use the expired passport and have the green card as his travel document? Or does he apply for a USA passport? Just trying to think ahead and can't seem to find a answer on this one.

Thanks! 😀

I assume he would need to renew his passport to obtain the visa, most passports are good for 10 years, is that the same for Morocco?

The one he has is for 5 years. When he comes here the passport would still be good. I am just wondering for future travel how would that work if he gets here before it expires and he's not in Morocco to renew it for future trips home he may want to take.

1st of all thanks for doing a timeline as it helps a lot

you applied for a K1 in October 2020 and depending on when in 2022 the passport expires makes a difference

the passport has to be valid (good for  6 months of the interview date) and if it expires early 2022 ,  he may need to renew before he goes to a late 2021 interview

and a K1 in Morocco is difficult to get so, if passport is not set to expire before the 6 months of interview, and he is approved and comes

you go to the Morocco embassy site in the US and print out the application to renew and send it with old Passport (after scanning a copy of profile page and the visa for safekeeping by you) to the embassy here

they mail it back to Morocco for the new passport and it will be mailed back to you with the old one

and BTW on a K1 visa he can not leave the USA for an extended time

till you marry and apply for AOSEAD and AP

these are so he can get 2 year green card,  travel and work and its taking a year maybe more to get there approved

so,  if he comes , he is here in the US without leaving and trust me ,  many here find this very boring

U don't seem to understand what happens when you make the petition for a K1

its not fast,  or cheap

read the guides above for the process and cost

Thank you so much for the information. Yes, I know he can't leave for a certain amount of time which is good because will give us a chance to save some money and work on home projects, LOL 😆😆

I am just someone who thinks ahead and was trying to make sure that there wouldn't be any issue with his documents. I am glad to know that we can renew the passport from the USA in the future. When I saw the passport previously it didn't expire until late 2022, so hopefully he is here before then!

BTW,   we sent a large manila priority service envelope for the application and put a self addressed folded over one inside for all to be mailed back
