In fact, you guys made fun of Biden supporters for sitting in their cars at his events. You guys made fun of Biden for "sitting in his basement" while Trump was out there in front of hundreds and thousands without wearing masks or socially distancing.

 

There's a lot of things the Trump movement owns, and getting everything wrong about the pandemic is one of them.

You don't have to conform to a political narrative (whatever that means). It would just be nice to be able to have a conversation about a topic without having to deal with a bunch of noise, gotchas, and zingers.

Yep, tired to do that, got hit by labels.  Like I said a page ago, what should we all believe from Dr. Fauci considering he has first said don't wear masks, then come out for masks, and now is saying wear two masks.  It seems like he is guilty of moving the goal posts which is a common from a politician/bureaucrat.  If Dr. Fauci was simply doing what he needed to do to get over this pandemic, why is he even straying into the political arena and labeling his former boss?  Maybe Trump was a complete moron with the federal response to the pandemic, opinions seem to differ, and even Dr. Fauci has seemed to change his mind as shown, but when you are dealing with a pandemic and also potentially ruining peoples lives, both can result in permanent results that are negative.

  IMO, many of his supporters believed it was a hoax, many acted like there was little risk, and many thought that it would "disappear" after the election. I believe Trump actually understood the nature of the virus, but chose to downplay it in favor of having the economy recover, ie. wanting states to open up. To that end, he did influence much of the prevailing attitude among those on the right that were either dismissive about the virus itself, or about the extent of the threat it posed over the long run.

But several people have explained this, so I don't understand why you keep saying that. Fauci changed his recommendation to wearing a mask when the evidence changed. He was really clear on that, and he's answered that exact question several times.

 

Don't you change your beliefs or positions when confronted with new evidence?

Depends on the evidence.  My biggest beef is that Fauci said not to wear a mask at first.  It was obviously common sense to wear a mask back in January/February 2020 as it is now.  You say he simply changed his opinion based on evidence, I would think a learned 79 year old career epidemiologist would already have the evidence for that so when he changed his tune later, it just seemed like spin when he tried to justify it.  Whatever.

   What bugs me still is, if the goal was to keep the economy strong and keep things open, the best way to do that would still be to have everybody on board with stopping the spread as much as possible, so everyone wearing masks when appropriate, social distancing and things like that would have gave us a better outcome if everyone was on board instead of just some people. 

 

   Acting like it wasn't a major problem only ensured it would end up becoming one. Sad to see, because as much as we argue, even if it is dogmatic at times, I think we should all be smart enough to realize that much.
