He did early on. We have been over that too. The problem is that when the science showed aerosolized spread was possible and the new guidelines recommended mask use, many didn't listen.

Dr. Fauci is now saying/suggesting we should all wear two masks.

I believe he said two layers are more effective than a single mask. The question was what else people could do in addition to standard protocol. Ideally we would have N95's available.

There are very good articles about this subject and it's not unusual in the context of what some healthcare workers did early on. Wearing an N95 covered by a well-made cloth or surgical mask or a surgical mask covered by a cloth one. The point is layers of protection really do help and in many cases helps the fit for the wearer and eliminates potential gaps. Companies like Starks had developed cloth/poly masks that were maximized to fit the face properly and eliminated the dreaded eyewear fogging. The goal is layers, and that's one reason why I sew my masks with multiple layers of special cloth and add in polypropylene material between them.

There is also recent discussion about the effects new variants will have with masking. Currently we say wear a mask and keep six feet away. But the more infectious something becomes the more that needs to be adjusted. There is no study so far that's looking at the data yet because it's still early, but it certainly makes sense that if you're doubling up protection with the best choices to block out whatever is being expelled there will be less of a chance for the thing to spread. It's nice to see studies showing more people are wearing masks, however I think people slapping any old thing on their face is the problem. It needs to be the right thing.

Imagine you've spent your entire life with no other agenda than to ensure people stay healthy and alive, and a large number of those people seek only to twist your words, mock you, and reject the hard science behind your lifelong mission to help them. It has to be disheartening.

Serious question, mind linking to one of those interviews? I don't think I ever heard him say the Trump admin was following his recommendations, but I could be wrong.

You are.  He said it......It wasn't widely reported by the Trump haters.

So yes, initially Trump was listening to Fauci. And then it was a Democratic hoax.

Trump never said the virus was a hoax. That is another lie spread by the Trump hit squads.

I though it was a virtue not to crumple in defeat at the hands of agenda-driven forces trying to persecute you into resignation?

Not sure Fauci is crumpling into anything. I was simply giving him an out if he was indeed troubled by any criticism.

Yes, he never actually said "the virus is a hoax." But in sum that was his message. And even if you still disagree, most of his followers sure took that message away. That's why Trumpers (and Trump himself!) refused to wear masks. It's why you had these "THIS IS TRUMP COUNTRY" idiots in super markets refusing to wear masks or socially distance. It's why Trump rallies became super spreader events.

If you want to argue semantics, then ok he never actually said the words "the virus is a hoax." But his messaging was all about that, and his supporters listened. Let's not pretend that wasn't his message.

It's just that I've read on here for the past couple of years that standing firm when all others attack you for your integrity is the right thing to do, especially when your enemies are persecuting you needlessly when you're only speaking the truth.

That's all. :)

I have always maintained that if Trump wanted to get away from the attacks (eventually), he could have always resigned, but that is really not the point now is it.
