I guess that's what I don't get. Regardless of my political affiliation or personal morality, I don't think I have ever voted for a candidate who has directly threatened my ability to make a living. Not unless they have offered a viable alternative. That's usually down to local politics, but it has come up from time to time.

That is why I was wondering why the union management would endorse Biden in the first place.  Of course those union managers think they can convince all of their members to follow their lead, and many of them do, but this is nothing different from the coal miners unions back in 2008 where their managers endorsed Obama even though he pledged to end the coal industry.

Union support for Democrats traces it's roots all the way back to Roosevelt, and the new deal. The primary issue was (and still is wages). The converse of your example would be Republicans embracing the trickle down theory even to the point that it has become detrimental. Even though we have seen no actual evidence (even theoretical) that trickle down would work, Republicans follow that dogma to the point that it drives would be supporters (on other issues) over to the Democrats. There are still voters who have single bigger issues (ie. religion, guns, environment, education) that the parties pander to, so wages alone are not always the biggest issue, but sometimes they become overwhelmingly so.

Unions aren't as overwhelmingly Democrat as they once were, then again unions aren't what they once were on any level. As long as wage stagnation is a major issue, and as long as Republicans stick to a failed theory that has kept wages historically low, I don't see unions having a lot of support for them, even if they sometimes lose member jobs because of that. Sometimes it comes down to the lesser of 2 evils.

Was it not the Dems that voted to keep gig jobs in California?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I'm not from California and I don't have the same California fetish that some people seem to have. If you know something and have a specific point you would like to make, then go for it.

May I caution - If your goal is to show Republicans supporting higher wages than Democrats overall, you need to do better than red herrings.

Interesting, I thought the canceling or pausing of the pipeline was for environmental purposes.

BIDEN'S KEYSTONE XL CARBON FOOTPRINT

We have all heard about the thousands of jobs that will be lost with the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline, but a little basic math reveals that President Biden's Keystone decision will INCREASE CARBON EMISSIONS EQUAL TO PUTTING NEARLY HALF A MILLION MORE CARS ON THE ROAD.

An analysis by the energy supply chain group, Energy Equipment & Infrastructure Alliance (EEIA), does the math about what NOT completing the Keystone XL pipeline would mean for carbon emissions. Here's how the CO2 numbers are calculated:

Since each gallon of diesel emits 22.44 pounds of CO2, that means the locomotives pulling those trains will emit over 1.5 million tons of CO2. That's all net addition to CO2 emissions since Keystone XL would have been powered entirely by renewable energy.

I tried to tell people this but they didn't want to listen to me. If you don't use a pipeline then it will be shipped either by rail or by truck.

Also I love how some people keep catagorizing these jobs as "temporary jobs" when in reality almost every job a tradesman works is temporary job. You just hope that you have jobs lined up so there is no time that you are between jobs

In shocking move, industry group puts out pro-industry report.

It's extremely misleading. Without the Keystone XL pipeline, the oil sands won't see anywhere near the increase in production that was anticipated. Which was actually the intent of stopping it anyway. I'm not sure why they are including the emissions cost of transporting oil that is staying in the ground.

So you favor different assumptions?  I tend to think the oil will be flowing somewhere regardless of the pipeline.

The desires of Union management often differ from the needs of the Union members.

AFL-CIO president's reaction to Keystone XL shutdown shows divide between union leadership, members: experts

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka's muted reaction to President Biden's decision to derail the Keystone XL pipeline project shows the divide between union leadership and union members, Heritage Foundation economics research fellow Rachel Greszler told Fox News.

"The fact that Trumka was relatively indifferent to Biden's move to kill thousands of union jobs is troubling and revealing," Greszler said. "It shows that unions don't actually represent workers' interests, but rather union leadership's quest for power."
