Interview and interpreter (merged)

My wife and I are scheduled for an interview. This is for a marriage based I-485. My wife does not speak English. The letter for the interview states that will can have an interpreter by phone. The letter does not have specifis about the interpreter. Does anyone know what are the requirements for the interpreter such as can it be a family member? I tried calling theUSCIS office but no luck (recording IVR).

No close family member is allowed, they don’t check but the interpreter has to swear. If they find out later (we never know), the green card might be in jeopardy. A friend is okay, I asked  my friend to help back then.

Thanks for your response. I will take you suggestion but does USCIS site have something in writing with these requirements?

This form is for in-person interpreter. I guess your information is old. Thanks

For those with interviews at a field office, those who do not speak English fluently should arrange to have an interpreter available by phone. Do not bring an interpreter to the interview

I would shy away from using a family member since there could be some perceived bias.  Usually you can find interpreters available in your local area.

You keep asking the same question and there is no on-phone interpreter for aos interview. The interpreter has to be there with you two.
