Biden did not violate the mandate. Here's the executive order:

Quote

It is the policy of my Administration to halt the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by relying on the best available data and science-based public health measures. Such measures include wearing masks when around others, physical distancing, and other related precautions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Put simply, masks and other public health measures reduce the spread of the disease, particularly when communities make widespread use of such measures, and thus save lives.

Accordingly, to protect the Federal workforce and individuals interacting with the Federal workforce, and to ensure the continuity of Government services and activities, on-duty or on-site Federal employees, on-site Federal contractors, and other individuals in Federal buildings and on Federal lands should all wear masks, maintain physical distance, and adhere to other public health measures, as provided in CDC guidelines.

The key phrase here is "Such measures include wearing masks when around others, physical distancing, and other related precautions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)."

The CDC recommends masks in most public spaces, but there are exceptions, especially in-doors, and in crowded situations. Biden was outdoors, with the nearest person at least 6 feet away.

You can argue that it would have been better for him to wear a mask, and that it would have set a better example. But the argument that he was in violation of his own order is false.

Spin Spin Spin.  Full disclosure, I wear a mask, I wore one all day at Disney last week, although I still believe physical distancing is more effective.  The point was that Biden was stating he was going to demand a national mask mandate, so if so, he should be wearing one 24/7.

There is nothing about a 24/7 "national mask mandate." That would be absurd.

So Biden being a federal employee on federal property can take his mask off?  Seems the language in the EO is pretty clear.  I suppose we can quibble over the word "should", but there is still the "do as I say.." aspect.

The order basically says "follow CDC guidelines." Biden was outdoors, more than 6 feet from anyone else, and by himself. I think any rational person would agree that it was fine.

Honestly this is petty. This is encroaching on "Obama wore a tan suit" territory.

No one should be wearing one 24/7, nor has that ever been suggested. Anyway, it's fairly easy to spot comments by people who are not in favor of mask use and are just bringing it up for political reasons. Like the people who called out dr Fauci for pulling down his mask to take a drink.

Hypocrisy in government officials, always worth noting.

Obama also likes dijon mustard. One time he didn't hold his own umbrella and another time he used a binder clip. Really bad.

It's dumb optics even if it complies with the CDC guidelines. It's hypocritical, I do not dispute that. I don't have a problem calling out Biden, even if we live in Biden Country. :P

Yep. That's the distinction I was trying to make. No, he did not violate his own executive order. Yes, the optics weren't ideal.

Also, never forget.

The only thing that bothers me is that if I could pull off color coordination like that, no one would have ever got me to take that mask off for a picture.
