Amazon.com Inc. is asking the National Labor Relations Board to consider having workers vote in person -- rather than by mail -- on a proposal to form a union at an Alabama warehouse.

The world’s largest online retailer said that a mail election raised the risk of fraud and the coercion of workers

But it's OK for a Presidential election...

Does irony or hypocrisy apply here?

Amazon doesn't run the federal elections so there is no irony or hypocrisy at all. Most corporate entities don't want workers unionizing. The actions here seem consistent with that, and I've seen it myself at places where the topic of unionizing is raised. Amazon is going to make the process as difficult as they can possibly make it. Making people vote in person in the midst of a pandemic is one way to accomplish that.

Are unions even legal in Alabama?

Umm, yes.  They are a Right to Work state, but Unions are allowed, however employers and Unions cannot force Union membership as a reason for employment.

Are you sure Amazon does not run federal elections?  While I agree what you say is basically true, and since this is a warehouse, I suspect most of the people are actually there in person, it does speak to Amazon's commitment to employee safety.

As sure as I can be. Although IIRC, Bezos and Trump don't like each other at all, so it would explain Biden's big come back and where all those votes came from for people who don't believe mail is a real thing.

You would have to ask Bill where he was going with that. I assumed it was a joke, but I'm never sure anymore.

It was a joke, but who knows, Amazon seems to be pretty invasive.

I'm not a fan of Amazon. I finally ended my boycott earlier this year when they were the only place that had paper towels, but I still avoid them if there is any other alternative. Amazon would be among the last entities I would ever want to see involved with he electoral process.

I certainly hope they, Amazon, are not involved, but with the unholy alliances we are seeing between the government and big tech, who really knows.  Before long, all those with Amazon Echos, or other "smart" speakers will be having a few other ears listening in.

Regardless, as to the OP, I can certainly see why Amazon wants to suppress the Union vote.  As a whole, I am not a big fan of Unions, but I am in favor of people having their choice if they so desire.

Why can't they delver their ballots in 2 days?  Some may end up at the neighbors house like my packages, but most should get there
