Hello All,

My wife's cr1 is at NVC and has been approved since December.  I came back to the states for a job that I was offered recently and now I'm working. I'm wondering if applying for a k3 visa for her would get her and my daughter here faster than waiting for the Colombian embassy to start doing interviews regularly. My daughter already has her CRBA and is an American citizen. Has anyone done a k3 recently during covid (or had any visa approved recently)? I heard that they are doing these K type interviews and they're somewhat a priority.

Any advice would help!

Thanks!!

K3 isn't issued anymore.   5 in the last couple of years

Your problem is getting an interview,  the same problem exists for any visa type

Thanks! Do you have any suggestion on how to get them here quicker than waiting on the embassy? What about a tourist visa (are they even giving these out right now)?

You need to read the embassy website but it appears they are still shutdown

K3 is obsolete. When someone applies for it, they change it to CR1.

If the embassies are not doing CR1 Interviews, they are not going to do K Interviews.

I had a crba interview not too long ago for my daughter so I know they're operating and I"ve emailed so many times. They're just super vague and I was curious what others knew or if there's something I could do to speed up the process.

Thanks for all your help!

Those are not viable solutions.  You will have to be patient.  You are stuck at NVC because the consulate is not processing many visas.  Once the consulate has available interview slots, and when your case reaches the front of the queue for that consulate at NVC, they (NVC) will schedule the interview.

ACS unit maybe operating but you asked about a tourist visa which is a different unit.  According to what I read,  the NIV unit isn't open.   Even seems like the IV unit is only doing emergency interviews.

YMMV

This is the sequence for NVC:

1. Case is DQ'd by NVC.

2. Case then enters NVC queue for your consulate and waits at NVC.

3. Consulate informs NVC of available interview date for upcoming month.

4. NVC schedules interview when case reaches the front of the queue for that consulate.

5. NVC notifies person of interview date via email.

6. NVC then sends case to consulate.

After the interview is scheduled, it can take several days to several weeks for the consulate to receive the case.

K3 visas are effectively obsolete.  For FY2020, only 2 K3 visas were issued worldwide.  Of course, you are still free to pursue it anyway, but it is highly unlikely that it will even get passed the petition stage.

As for getting a tourist visa, it will be difficult for your wife to convince the consul officer that she has no immigrant intent, given that she has a pending CR1 case.  Note also that the US embassy in Colombia are not even processing routine B visa applications, so your wife would not be able to interview for a tourist visa anytime soon.  No one knows when Bogota will resume routine B visa services.
