Entered on a K3 visa. What are the next steps?

After entry into US on a K3 visa, what are the first few next steps?

1. Do I go to a civil surgeon first to complete the immunizations? ("not routinely available" is checked on Td; and "not age appropriate" and "insufficient time interval" are check marked on the kids' vaccination record). What is a blanket waiver?

Do I have to complete this vaccination supplement before filing the I-485? What documents will I show to the civil surgeon?

2. When can I apply for a Social Security Number?

3. When can I apply for a State ID and/or Driver's License?

I'm not the most savvy on K3s, but I'll try to answer as best I can.

1. You can get the immunizations done at a civil surgeon's or, for a cheaper route, maybe go to your local county/city/town/regional board of health and/or public health nurse. Often they supply immunizations for much cheaper and you can present proof of the vaccination(s) to the civil surgeon. It may be worth considering.

2. You should be able to apply for it as soon as you have proof that you've entered the country. I don't believe the process is problematic as long as you bring along your documentation (IE: NoAs or whatnot) but I can't be 100% sure. *^^* Sorry..

3. Driver's license and state IDs vary by state. For some, like Illinois, you absolutely must have your SSN and bring along other proofs of residency. They have been rather unfriendly until I show up with a green card, meanies, but they really seem to like the SSN. Check the DMV for your area, and call them; if you get a very unfavourable reaction, ask to speak to a supervisor to explain your case or go to another DMV!
