We had to book through an agency in the Philippines. The direct flights weren’t available directly or through apps like Expedia. I’m not sure why. Even after we booked it I couldn’t find the flights from here. They made it home last Wednesday so that agency was the way to go.

There is a PAL ticketing office in Makati.  I had called the local number when I changed my ticket from Jan 15 to Feb 19 and because I was calling the local number, they had to charge me the travel tax, that 1620p rip-off tax charged to Filipinos or people who have stayed in the Philippines for over 1 year.  There was a time, maybe 8-10 years ago where buying flights to the US from the Philippines had to go through a travel agency.  I used to know why but dont remember, maybe thats still in place.

Thanks for the heads up though.  We may just go to a travel agent or the PAL office and book.

The United States is now a country obsessed with the worship of its own ignorance.  Americans are proud of not knowing things.  They have reached a point where ignorance, is an actual virtue.  To reject the advice of experts is to assert autonomy, a way for Americans to insulate their increasingly fragile egos from ever being told they're wrong about anything.  It is a new Declaration of Independence: no longer do we hold these truths to be self-evident, we hold all truths to be self-evident, even the ones that arent true.  All things are knowable and every opinion on any subject is as good as any other.  The fundamental knowledge of the average American is now so low that it has crashed through the floor of "uninformed", passed "misinformed", on the way down, and now plummeting to "aggressively wrong."

We were cancelled on Cathay Pacific, ANA and EVA because of the countries of the stopover. We got them home via PAL to Los Angeles.

That's rough. Must have been stressful. Also disappointing as just a few weeks ago, ANA (Manila-Tokyo-US) was still a viable way to get to the US. I sure hope you got refunded without any issues by those three airlines.

I did end up getting all the refunds and they made it here on Wednesday. It was stressful but all worked out well.

Back around 2008 they had a rule that Philippine citizen couldn't buy a international ticket without a valid visa inside Philippines.

The Hilton in Pasay will take you.

It was $947 for 5 nights for three.I believe it is significantly less for 2 or one. INCLUDES BREAKFAST. There is a McDonald's across the street and I mention this because it cost my wife and her two nieces $267 for dinner.😮😮😮  My wife stayed there last week so she could fly out to meet me in San Francisco.

She had to take an antigen test before entry into the hotel and then of course a RT PCR test before she could fly on Philippine Airlines to America. I believe the Sheraton in Pasay takes non quarantine.

I had my wife stay at the Bayview in October November for 36 days for her interview and that was also a quarantine hotel and they allowed both, but now they have changed it so Bayview  only allows quarantine OFW to stay there. So things are changing daily and you gotta keep up on it.
