Just in.....quarantining upon arrival in America

My wife will be tested in Manila before she leaves on her flight from Manila to San Francisco.  Biden just stated upon arrival, all must quarantine. I am thinking as long as we stay in the airport we are good until we set foot in Boise.

THEN we must quarantine. Do you believe I am correct on this? We plan on driving immediately to our home north to quarantine and then be tested. Quarantining in Boise would be counter productive as we would have to leave daily for food, but EVERYTHING WE NEED is at our condo. When we arrive at our condo>>>>>we also both plan on being tested.

What do  you think?

Not yet; i.e. there isn't an effective date nor a specific enforcement process. What Biden did was to order certain federal agencies to come up with a plan: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/01/21/executive-order-promoting-covid-19-safety-in-domestic-and-international-travel/

The Secretary of HHS, in coordination with the Secretary of Transportation (including through the Administrator of the FAA) and the Secretary of Homeland Security (including through the Administrator of the TSA), shall promptly provide to the President, through the COVID-19 Response Coordinator, a plan for how the Secretary and other Federal Government actors could implement the policy stated in subsection (a) of this section with respect to CDC-recommended periods of self-quarantine or self-isolation after a flight to the United States from a foreign country, as he deems appropriate and consistent with applicable law.  The plan shall identify agencies’ tools and mechanisms to assist travelers in complying with such policy.

Thank you HRQX !   This will be on Feb 10th. I have a feeling this new enforcement will be in place then.

I am pretty sure authorities in Boise will let us drive immediately with ZERO stops to our home 100 miles away and then quarantine.

Thanks again.

It seems kind of ridiculous considering that whatever foreign country anyone may be flying to the US from, they will be traveling from an area of lower lower risk of COVID infection (anywhere) to an area with a higher risk of COVID infection (the US).  Therefore travelers arriving from abroad should be "lower risk" than the "next guy walking down the street" in my local neighborhood.

If you read the EO, it appears they would like to have a plan in place 14 days from the date of the EO which was Jan 21st.  So that would Feb 4th.  We are in the same situation as you, received a call from USEM confirming if we can make it to the US before Feb 22 when the medical will expire and we said we could.  Hopefully we can get visa in hand next week and then leave the country before Feb 4th.

Im not sure how they will enforce the quarantine but since I work for a medical center, my employer requires us to follow all rules.  Some states have already had this in place, for example our resident state is PA and they have had a 10 day quarantine in place since Dec 17th if you couldnt present a negative COVID test.  However, nobody is really checking it and when I called the PA Dept of Health on the 18th of Dec, the person had no clue that the DOH had change the quarantine time from 14 days to 10.

The United States is now a country obsessed with the worship of its own ignorance.  Americans are proud of not knowing things.  They have reached a point where ignorance, is an actual virtue.  To reject the advice of experts is to assert autonomy, a way for Americans to insulate their increasingly fragile egos from ever being told they're wrong about anything.  It is a new Declaration of Independence: no longer do we hold these truths to be self-evident, we hold all truths to be self-evident, even the ones that arent true.  All things are knowable and every opinion on any subject is as good as any other.  The fundamental knowledge of the average American is now so low that it has crashed through the floor of "uninformed", passed "misinformed", on the way down, and now plummeting to "aggressively wrong."

That is a fact...The US citizens should quarantine and allow the foreigner free range!  LOL  My step kids just got back from Manila yesterday.  We had 5 flights cancelled and finally got it done.  My step daughter actually did her online high school classes from the Philippines.  That is the only advantage that I can say Covid presented to us.  Luckily we packed her school Chromebook just in case.  They were delayed there almost 3 weeks..

All I can say is good luck enforcing this. I hope people start to wake up and see their freedoms being taken away.

We needed to wake up months ago as this is exactly what the new administration promised to do.

YMMV

Do you remember which flights were cancelled?  We are in the same situation but need to enter the US by Feb 22 so not much time to deal with cancelled flights.  USEM called us Friday confirming the pickup point for the new visa and also asking us if we were sure we could enter the US before the medical expired on the 22nd.  I have a flight on Feb 19 from MNL to JFK, but as soon as we get the visa and CFO temp certificate, we are out of here, even flying the PAL to LAX or SFO if need be.  Were your flights any connecting flights through Korea or Japan?

This is probably one of the better articles out there on the potential quarantine coming.

We were cancelled on Cathay Pacific, ANA and EVA because of the countries of the stopover. We got them home via PAL to Los Angeles.

Thanks.  Thats really helpful.  PAL seems like the only safe option for now.

We had to book through an agency in the Philippines. The direct flights weren’t available directly or through apps like Expedia. I’m not sure why. Even after we booked it I couldn’t find the flights from here. They made it home last Wednesday so that agency was the way to go.
