I received this email for my mother on Jun 6th 2020 :

Dear XXXXX ,

The National Visa Center (NVC) received all of the fees, forms, and documents that are required prior to attending an immigrant visa interview at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate General overseas.

NVC will work with the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General in RIYADH, SARB to schedule an interview appointment for you. Once we have confirmed an interview date, we will send a notice to you, your petitioner and attorney (if applicable).

Please do NOT make any travel arrangements, sell property, or give up employment until you have received an immigrant visa from the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General.

It has been over 6 months with no word from the embassy or NVC. Is this normal ? Anyone with the same situation ?

Yes, since your case is Family-Based preference category. There is currently a ban affecting your case until either Biden ends it or March 31, 2021; whichever occurs first. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2021/01/06/2021-00039/suspension-of-entry-of-immigrants-and-nonimmigrants-who-continue-to-present-a-risk-to-the-united

IR5?  There will be no interviews scheduled for that visa category until the visa issuance ban ends or is lifted by Biden.  Keep up-to-date with immigration-related news or check regularly here on VJ.

Also, browse the "Family Members of USCs" sub-forum for posts from others like you who are waiting on their parents' visa process -- https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/111-bringing-family-members-of-us-citizens-to-america/
