Hi all,

I received my welcome today. And at the bottom of the letter it says:

"Your new card will expire in ten years. While card expiration will not directly affect your status, you will need to apply to review your card several months before it expires... etc etc".

We've been married for less than a year at the time of the interview, so I wonder if this is just a standard letter or am I really going to get a 10-year card? The interviewer after she stamped my passport and told us we were approved, never did explain to us about removing the conditions or mention anything about it at all.

So for those who get a welcome letter and a 2 year card, can you share what it says at the 6th paragraph of your welcome letter (2 year or 10 year)?

Thank you so much and I can't wait for my card to arrive!

Also, at the top by the Notice Type, I have COA: IR6. I read on another thread that the conditional card is CR6. I hope I am really getting the 10 year card, then I don't have to worry about lifting the condition. :)

First off...CONGRATULATIONS on your "Welcome Letter"!

Second off...I just looked at my letter, and it says:

"Your new card will expire two years from when you became a resident. By law your resident status is conditional, and you must apply to remove those conditions before your card expire. We recommend you apply several months before your card expires..."...blah blah blah.

I think it's pretty weird that they're sending you a 10-year card. I might be wrong, but I think you might need to remove conditions after 2 years anyway, because if you were married for less then 2 years when you became a resident, your status will be conditional anyway. Also, your code should be CR6.

I would get an Infopass appointment after you receive the green card, and see what they suggest.

Thank you, InLove_Tx.

It is really strange that they sent me that welcome letter but I guess I have to wait and see which card I will really get. We are moving out of our current aparment in 2 weeks and will go back to my home country and travel around Asia for 6 months or so, so Infopass might not be possible. Let's just hope they send me the right card. Any day now.... :)

Thanks clmarsh! It feels great to get the approval. I am sure you know exactly how it feels :)

I talked to a lawyer and she said that if I get a 10 year card, I should file the correction form... it sounds like such a pain, I am so tempted to just keep it if I do get a 10 year card.

I've read on some previous posts that you won't need to file a correctin form. However, it is recommended that you still file for the removal of conditions 90 days before the "supposed" 2nd anniversary if you had received a two-year green card. This is to protect your status in case your file says conditional PR and your GC was just prepared erroneously.

I agree.. I've always read the legal opinion that this is the way to handle getting the 'wrong' card code.

You can search posts from SecretGarden at the britishexpats site; hers was the first case I remember this happening with, and it was hashed out quite thouroghly.

Congrats friedicecream123! :)

I am pretty sure that you are going to get 10 year green card.

USCIS has the freedom of action to issue a permanent residence status without conditions. It is in their hands to do that.

If I were you I would get my card and be grateful. I would not even attempt to send a letter for correction.

I am now a US citizen.
