Panic: How do we know about the interview at the embassy?

Hi,

My case got DQ'ed Oct 7. My last status was that NVC is working with the embassy do schedule an appointment but I haven't heard since then.

Now I received the email from NVC:

Quote

Subject: Immigration appointment cancelled

We previously notified you of the date and time of your immigrant visa interview at the U.S.Embassy/Consulate XXX.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to cancel this interview. We will schedule a new interview appointment as soon as possible and notify you of the date and time. There is no need for you to take action at this time.

This implies my interview was already scheduled without my knowledge but I have not received any notification (no email, nothing in CEAC, no written letter). So if the interview hadn't been cancelled, I would have missed it (at whenever it was scheduled).

Now I am starting to panick: How would I receive the interview appointment?

How can it be that I did not receive an appointment letter?

Can it be that they called some time on the phone and I missed the call (busy, out of battery, no service etc. happens quite often) or would they also always send things in written form?

Or can it be that this message is a mistake and nothing was scheduled anyway?

Thanks!

PS: CEAC shows my case still as "YOUR CASE IS CURRENTLY AT: NVC"

NVC doesn't make phone calls to inform you of an interview.  They email appointments.

1. Case is DQ'd by NVC.

2. Case the enters NVC queue for your consulate and waits at NVC.

3. Consulate informs NVC of available interview date for upcoming month.

4. NVC schedules interview when case reaches the front of the queue for that consulate.

5. NVC notifies person of interview date.

6. NVC then sends case to consulate.

After the interview is scheduled, it can take several days to several weeks for the consulate to receive the case.

Great, thank you!

Can I conclude from your points:

  1. Not the embassy will contact me but NVC. In this case I would always get an email (and notification in CEAC)
  2. I do not need to be afraid missing an appointment because accidentially missing a phone call
  3. I did not miss the interview letter; it has not been sent to me
  4. The message about cancellation was a mistake from NVC (which I should not have received because I did not receive an interview letter previously).

Interesting,  which kind of Visa?

CR1, consular processing
