I was hoping to get a 3-year visa for our baby too (my husband has one), but right now you can get only a visa for one trip for a family member  ridiculous

Single entry visa only it sounds like then? Good to know it's not even worth bothering for those of us who want a multi-entry 3 year.

Yeah, this is gonna be a single entry private (not a tourist) visa then.. I’d like to get a 3 year visa for our baby too but I can’t even imagine how long we’d have to wait until they allow to apply for tourist visas again and we’d like to see my family since I haven’t been there for more than a year

It's really frustrating....my husband has also not seen his family in over a year.

 

My hope is that they will at least offer the 3 year private visas again at some point (tourists might be delayed understandably).

Also would prefer not to have to do things in-person in DC, as that's a bit of a trek from San Diego.

That seems insane to me that they're requiring people to go in person. I would check with the Russian Visa Centre in NYC, because it says they're offering mail in services right now?

can someone update what they have done?

my wife wants to see her family and take the baby.

I was recently able to secure a 3 year Russia private visa via the Russian Visa Center in DC. As far as I know, they are issuing visas now to all relatives of Russian citizens. I'm not sure if there are special requirements for babies. 

 

They also offer mail in service now. I'm not sure about tourist visas but private visa should be doable. You don't even need the official заявление from Russia, just a copy of it. If you have relatives in Russia they should be able to get it done easily.

Glad to help! Sadly, no tutorials around here. So, yes, any relative inside Russia can go to the local notary office and have them make the invitation. There's an example document here under "see template": https://newyork.mid.ru/web/newyork_en/private-visa

 

Then apply via post here: https://russia-visacentre.com/en/visa/usa/russia/visa-types/private-visa

 

You can also call the visa centre and ask any questions. Since it is for a baby, they might ask for a signed letter explaining that this is for a baby and hence "unemployed" and no employment history, etc. Best to check with them directly.

Will still need to get around to this eventually, but it's looking likely the next time we catch up with any of Anastasia's family it'll be in a third country and may not be until 2023 (though the plus side of that is Anastasia could have US citizenship by then, which makes things easier if we're going anywhere but Russia).
