If the article is true (and I believe it is because I trust Reuters), then I feel like this is just a game to one up each other. A travel restriction that excludes US citizens is useless for preventing disease spread. Mandatory quarantine can do so much more. Or the current testing requirement

Keep in mind ALL passengers must show a mandatory negative test before entry - and US citizens are subjected to this in the order. The administration will likely keep that angle of the requirement.

The CDC order on testing relates to airline boarding and the passengers' legal attestation. The CBP's legal obligation to admit US nationals remains since both SCOTUS and lower federal courts have recognized a US national's absolute right to enter the US.

But the federal government can still prosecute after entry; see the following part of the passengers' legal attestation: "Any passenger who fails to comply with these requirements may be subject to criminal penalties under, among others, 42 U.S.C. 271 and 42 CFR 71.2, in conjunction with 18 U.S.C. 3559 and 3571. Willfully providing false or misleading information may lead to criminal fines and imprisonment under, among others, 18 U.S.C. 1001."

this should have been done back in Feb 2020 but the orange clown told us it will disappear like a miracle. All international passengers irrespective of citizenship should have been subjected to submit a negative COVID result before boarding the plane.

Were tests available then?

If you're scared about this, I'd reconsider your move from good old Blighty to the US of A. Even long past the pandemic there will still be plenty of things to be very scared of over there, where can I start... guns, terrible drivers (just look at the statistics on this, even when adjusting for the fact that they drive more than us - although I will admit, these statistics should hardly be a surprise after taking a driving test in essentially any one of the US states - it's literally an idiot test, and tells the "examiner" nothing about your driving ability whatsoever), drunk drivers, crazy people in general, endemic geographical ignorance, lack of a social safety net we've come to expect in the rest of the developed world, etc etc... Don't get me wrong, there are countless positives too, but the USA is certainly not for the faint hearted.

In terms of Biden seemingly overturning the Trump rule change, it's a real kick in the stomach for many to hear this after the short-lived excitement yesterday following Trump's new presidential proclamation. Let's hope Biden's administration at least adjusts the restrictions allowing those in long-term, unmarried, relationships to be reunited with their loved ones without a long trek to a country that isn't banned (but I'm not holding my breath...). Let's face it, there are plenty of unmarried couples who spend their lives together (especially in the Western world), so Biden, as a supposed progressive, hopefully is less backward and will change the policy that currently requires evidence of marriage to a US citizen for entry from the "banned countries". It really should just be a requirement for some decent evidence supporting the idea that all one wants to do is to see, feel and love a loved one in person.

Come on, man!  They didn’t even have sufficient means of testing back then. We didn’t know how horrible this virus actually was. It’s not nice to call people names.

Oh believe me, all of those things concern me a lot!!

I hope I get used to it.... 😕

Well, the new PressSec tweeted yesterday open to questions, and thousands of people answered. The majority of tweets talk about binational couples and the travel ban. I hope this will be addressed in her video, there are thousands of people stuck who have not seen their families for a year. From my understanding, next Friday will determine the final details of reversing Trump's proclamation allowing to travel again? So, hopefully, an exception for K1s will be introduced.

Or at least an end to DOS's unlawful "No Visa Policy." That policy is unlawful because the proclamations are explicitly about entry to the US, per the law.

Consular posts can easily annotate visas with info stating whether or not the traveler is subject to the relevant COVID proclamation:
