Hi Good Morning,

Hope you all doing well. I have question regarding filling up information about "travel outside of USA in last 5 years". I am applying for wife's citizenship after 3 years for conditional resident. last 5 year count from 2016. She travel quite few countries while she was studying in Europe between 2015-2017 but she did not received green card during that time. Now i am trying to figure out how to input that information. should i only include travel information after she become resident or everything during last 5 years. any help will be appreciated. thanks

For the 3 year rule, you don't need 5 years' information.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Thanks. How about for education/employment and residence. should put it for 3 years or 5 years? i am wondering why they did not keep a separate form for 3 years and 5 years.

Actually, this is a good question at least as far as the online forms are concerned. There is no reason that they can’t code it differently depending what the response is for part 1, given that they already have online forms that don’t ask irrelevant questions/ask different questions based on previous answers.

Everything is 3 years if you are applying based on 3 years marriage to USC.

yah. this is why i was confused. i am trying to do it online and they keep asking for 5 years info while i already selected for green card for 3 years. my wife studied masters in 4 cities in Europe between 2015-2017 . she stayed  each semester in a different country as part of her study program and travel during study break within Schengen region. it is always nightmare for me any time i have to write information for last 5 year residence or travel

It is confusing but I don’t think you can only mention 3 years for education/ employment or addresses just because you are filling under 3 year rule . You will see an error because there will be a gap . I don’t know how that will be looking like when you review your application before submitting I just think that will show a red or at least a yellow alert

my understanding is you still can submit it with some errors but that can delay it so why? . Just do your best to provide what they need

No, the point of doing the addresses etc is to reconcile meeting the physical presence and continuous residence requirements for naturalization. So putting jobs and addresses down prior to when you actually lived in the US is pointless and meaningless. It’s nothing to do with background checks.

As above. Pointless and confusing for the purposes of N400.  The addresses required are for the relevant period of residency in the US that count towards naturalization. We have seen countless posts of people who have filled in 3 years and been successful. Alerts do not stop you submitting the form and the interviewing officers know what is needed.
