Good Day Everyone,

I am reaching out to ask for guidance and to see if anyone has gone through a similar experience.

After waiting for 6 months, my wife was finally had her biometrics appointment on January 3, 2021. (We had originally submitted her change of status documents in June 2020 after being married in May. She came on a fiancé visa) However, at this point, we are unsure how long the next step of the process is going to take because the pandemic has virtually halted the system. Because of this, I am worried that something negative will happen once my wife's passport expires next month. I have attempted to get in touch with USCIS to seek advice, but getting past the computerized screening voice to speak with a real person is impossible.

My wife is from Egypt and their diplomatic services aren't known for their efficiency. So I am afraid that if we try to renew her passport, we will be delayed a long time or USCIS might request her passport at some point while we are waiting for it to be renewed. Part of me just wants to let the passport expire, but I am unsure of what will happen. She is my wife, so I do not think she can be deported, right? We were legally married in the US after she came over on a finance visa.

Has anyone gone through this experience before? Do you have any advice?

Thank you all in advance.

Her passport is not needed for any adjustment of status. Renew it. If she plans to travel why not. Why would USCIS need an Egyptian passport for processing a US green card application? It's not needed.

The Interview letter does say that they must take to the interview any travel document used to enter the US, including Passport.
