We have had fantastic news in the state and the county today. The stay at home order is lifted! As a state, we pulled together enough to drive down transmission rates and in the county it has been really impressive. In the middle of December, the daily rate of transmission was 1.3; as of yesterday, it was 0.82. The good news is that outdoor dining will open again as well as hairdressers, nail salons, etc. with modifications. We can have small (3 household) gatherings again outside. We earned this by improving mask wearing, distancing and staying at home. We can keep doing the good stuff by not pushing the limits.

Just a big, big sigh of relief.

I'm happy for you. I hope everyone is. It was looking really bad there for a while so it's good to see things trending in the opposite direction.

We have actually had members on the site at times who seemed to be a little too happy whenever bad things happened in (or to) California. Hopefully nobody here now feels that way.

I mean this is pretty awesome. But it's pretty coincidental since they did it AFTER Biden was in office even though numbers were going up even with the stay at home order.

What makes this even more suspicious is I got a free baseball cap in the mail yesterday. I didn't get one free baseball cap in 4 years of Trump. Coincidence? ... or not?

Yep, did it happen to be red?

No it was kind of beige. Colorado Lynx I think. I emailed the shipper and they said it was a $3 hat supposed to go to someone else, so I could keep it, donate it or throw it away, but they were not going to pay to ship it back.

I just thought what the heck. As soon as we have a liberal president, I start getting free stuff. Can't just be a coincidence.

The numbers really only started to look stable in the past week. I look at my Citizen app COVID19 tracker every evening to look at transmission rates, and we did not get below 1 until January 7th. It then ticked up again (post-NYE celebration effects) over 1 until January 18th, when it finally dipped below 1 and has been trending downwards dramatically every day since then.

1/18: 1.0

1/19: 0.97

1/20: 0.94

1/21: 0.9

1/22: 0.87

1/23: 0.85

1/24: 0.84

1/25: TBD in about an hour

Just to add a little more, the reason why numbers were going up even with the stay at home order is: WE SUCK! People went to holiday parties. Some people I know who should know better went to holiday parties where they did not get COVID, but other attendees did. ("It was only 10 of us..." and then boom, 6 of them down.) There were a bunch of illegal raves, there's a thriving back alley nightclub scene in the Warehouse District, and some high profile celebrity and police (yes, police) parties were thrown. Holidays are over, things got better.

I think this is happening in a few states. Kind of the opposite effect of Thanksgiving and Christmas. There is not as much that people are doing in January in many places.

I am glad things are looking better. Unfortunately my best friend that used to live in Pasadena but now lives in San Dimas was only able to see his mother twice in the last year because she was in hospice care. They were luckily able to spend a weekend with her during Christmas but she unfortunately died over the weekend and will only have a small funeral now.

I have been in SF in January and the weather was pretty nasty.

Really sorry to hear that. It's so, so hard. I was lucky to see my parents in October for the wedding, but besides that, it was (as far as I can recall) one time in March and another during the summer, just a drive by wave through the car window. But of course I get to see them when this is over, and for that I am eternally thankful.

Oh, I really like it!!! Then again I think I was born to live somewhere with more seasons than SoCal. Very excited because we have weather this week -- it was low 50s this week and miserable in the afternoon, rain and wind and thunderstorms on their way. So excited to get my rainboots and new hood for my Barbour jacket out. Yes, I know this is weird. Yes, I know I am weird. :P

I hope your parents are doing good btw. This is really tough espeically for Latinos because as you know they are usually very family centric. Which my friend's mother and father came from Peru back in the early 70's. So they have a big family and will only have a small funeral.

So how many days a year can you wear it for its intended use.

Thanks for the well wishes for my parents. Mom had her first dose and is getting dose #2 later this week. Dad is waiting for dose #1 but he is eligible now, just a matter of lucking out. The system they rolled out is apparently a total nightmare and hard to navigate online. My dad is up to date with technology so it's not like he needs hand-holding, it's just the site is bad.
