Hello,

I have been a silent member but got immense help from this group.

Have you already consulted this group's FAQ and conducted a forum search? Both of those serve as invaluable tools for resolving the questions you have presented.

@PawID & @Fefe Le Pew, approved?

Hi!  The CO said  all was fine but 221g due to them having to do some verification & additional processing - ( my husband is non Canadian and status in limbo but cannot return home country due to COVID etc - long story ) I just checked it and it says status Issued but also says below Your visa case is currently undergoing necessary administrative processing. This processing can take several weeks. As the officer told you in the interview, if further information is needed, you will be contacted. . Does that mean we are good to go? They had said may take a few days so dont want to jump the gun in excitement LOL

Hi everyone,

last week I emailed the consulate in regards to changing my wife’s (the US petitioner) address/the address I intent to live when I move, on our DS-260. They just got back to me today with a very automated sounding reply saying that they’re prioritizing cases of immediate relatives of US citizens and to expect longer than normal wait time. Then under that they said “since this case is still at the NVC you will have to contact the NVC for any updates on your case”

The FAQ says I should email the consulate but they’re telling me to contact the NVC?  I’m assuming this is because I don’t have an interview scheduled yet? Should I email the NVC regarding the address change or can I just wait and inform them of the change at my interview?

thanks!

Yep, all good. Issued = approved. Review our FAQ to see the status progression post-interview.

Congrats!

I had emailed NVC when ours changed and they said it was changed but when I had my interview they still had my wifes original address on file.  You can always update the info at your interview.

Okay thanks! I sent a request into the NVC to have it changed as well. We will see what the say. If not, it’s good to know that I can change it at my interview.

From what I understand you should also be able to change it at POE.

Is it true for all the Non-Canadian going through advanced processing ?
Any idea what additional background check they would do even after we presenting the police clearance certificate from the country other than Canada ?

Also, Is it advisable to upload Canadian PR picture on CEAC or just to bring it to the interview?

NVC came back to me and asked me to upload a copy of my Canadian PR card before they finally DQed me in September. It's best to be proactive and upload it to avoid any delays if you haven't been DQed yet, otherwise presenting it at the interview would be fine I would imagine.

We had both checked the box on the DS-260 to receive the SSN. I received my social security card Jan 11th, but my son never received one. We called the local social security office (found here: https://www.ssa.gov/locator/) about my son's SSN, and they said he will have to apply for one.

Since my son is over 12, he has to attend an in-person interview, and since he is 18 he has to talk to them himself & fill everything out himself & also go to the appointment alone (I can't go inside at all because of covid). He has to fill out the SS-5 form (available online), bring ID, proof of immigration status, his birth certificate, plus documents to "prove" that he wouldn't already have an SSN - one per decade he has been alive, showing that he was residing outside of the US. (This seems silly to me - he has a Canadian birth certificate & JUST immigrated to the US less than 2 months ago. Why does he need to prove foreign residence?) The person on the phone said that school records will work for that. Once he has filled out the form and gathered all the documents, he has to call back to make an appointment. (Also, because of covid, you can't have been outside of the country in the 14 days before your appointment.)

Just wanted to update on this, incase anyone else goes through it. After digging through all my files looking for documents to prove my son was residing outside of the US (which was difficult for us, since he was a child, so doesn't have any official documents, and we don't have any school documents), we called in and spoke to someone else to make the appointment for him to go in. It turns out that the first person was mistaken, and those documents were NOT required. They are only required if you a US citizen who grew up outside of the US. All he needed was: birth certificate, Canadian passport, and his green card (or the temporary I-551 stamp in his passport).

It took a lot to get through to the local social security office (had to call 4 times to even get in the hold queue), but the hold time was only around 15 minutes. They took his information then someone called us back the next day and were able to give him a same day appointment. He had to go in alone, but it was only about 5 minutes - she just took his documents, photocopied them, and gave them back. She said we should receive a receipt in the mail in a few days, and the card within 2 weeks.

Hey can anyone who has received a green card in the mail sometime within the last year tell me if a signature was required to receive it, or was it just left in the mailbox?

Hello-
