This is actually an interesting scenario I havent heard of before. I entered on a B2 visa as well and ended up marrying my US love after numerous trips but I cant imagine how an officer at the customs would react if he finds out you already have plans to marry in the USA. I also got pulled into secondary and had to show my phone etc. so be prepared for that and whatever you do, dont lie. If you lie about your plans, intentions, they can literally ban you from entering. Maybe someone else on here has been in a similar situation and can offer some guidance or maybe even consult a lawyer to be safe.

Thank you for your reply.

I used to work for an airline so the job had many benefits in understanding some things prior to my own personal experience with traveling with an ESTA. I also know that dishonesty is not the way to go. I will be answering questions truthfully since I have nothing to hide.

You are correct. You can come to the US to marry a US citizen, you just cannot come with the intent to stay and adjust status because that is when it becomes fraud. Nothing wrong with not freely offering the information that you are coming to marry unless asked either (of course you can't hide anything that they do ask about, that can get you banned). You should also come prepared with extra documentation to prove your ties to Canada as coming to get married will likely invite extra scrutiny. Good luck!

Thank you for your reply.

Since this trip will be the longest stay ever at 4 weeks in the US, (spent 3 weeks in Chicago for United Airlines training back in 2017) I do intend to bring a letter from both my employer and landlord. Thank you!

@TedsGirl

I will second @DGF  opinion. I can share my experience.

I told officer that I am going for my marriage. He asked me a lot of questions but I was having extra documentation to prove my ties to Canada.

Later he called his supervisor and he asked extra questions. At the end they were satisfied and let me go.

But it really depends on the officer he may let you in or refuse on the spot so be ready for that.

Best of luck

They’re a been no movement as of yet- maybe they’re going back to mid-month release but if they do that, anyone who has to quarantine is totally fricked for early April interviews 😩

no one knows anything and we are all just anxious speculators doing our best 😭😭

So for those of you who got an interview in the last few months, does anyone know if they send all the letters at a specific time of day? I’ve become addicted to checking my email every single time I touch my phone... and thinking if I just knew what time of day they were sent out last month maybe I could feel less preoccupied with it.

Hi everyone, my husband entered on 1/9/21 and still no sign of SSN or Green Card. I know the Green Card takes up to 90 days, so we’re not worried about that yet. From what I’ve read, he should have had his SSN already. Does anyone know who to call about it?

I’ve only been on VJ during pandemic times, but the generally consensus is that they are usually sent overnight around 2am (not sure what time zone that is though), but there are reports of mid-day batches being released as well.

the pandemic has ruffled every feather in the process and I genuinely think there is no consistency right now as the consulate tries to navigate local health regulations. It’s made it so much harder to manage for us, mentally, who count on those times and days as proof of movement. But there is nothing right now to suggest there is much of a pattern since the consulate opened back up for processing in November.

it’s really hard, I find myself doing the same thing.

I've never seen it be anything other than overnight. We got ours at 11pm west coast time which felt early because I'd always seen people say they got theirs at 2 am but that lines up with the time difference.

I am not a lawyer and nothing I say is or should be taken as legal advice.

You can call your local (nearest) SSA office and ask them what the status of your SSN is. I did this last week and was able to find out whether one had been produced. If it hasn't been, you can book an appointment with them directly to reapply for one.

Overnight was what I thought too. Thanks! Hopefully I can stop checking my email every 10 seconds😂

Before covid, ie last March, the batch arrived in our email at 2am Pacific.  FWIW

I used to check this thread once a week. Now I'm checking it every hour.  We need some IL's already. Just put me out of my misery and let me know if we made the cut or if we are gonna wait another month.

Pre pandemic, I got one (there were 3 of us) at 9:30am and the next day at 3:03am, 4:05am.  I think most of them came in the night, but I suspect some manual labour went into ours because I had 2 kids tied to me.  Kid2's letter came the day before mine and Kid1's letters came and at "regular" business hours.

Hi fellow VJ friends.

I was discussing things with my husband and we came up with few questions that I haven’t seen being answered in our thread because they are related to immigrating during the pandemic and crossing the border.

2. I am deemed an essential worker in Canada (I am an IT infrastructure specialist) and I am considering the possibility to continue working for my current employer in Canada after I move in with my husband in Michigan at least until I find something more suitable in the USA. I wonder if someone has a similar experience with crossing the border daily or weekly. Will CBP accept a letter from my employer stating that I am essential or do they have their own definition of essential workers?

I live along the BC/Washington border, and myself and numerous friends and family members are currently crossing the border daily for work as essential workers, in both directions (some live in US and work in Canada, some live in Canada and work in the US). Industries for those folks include healthcare, agriculture, construction, and manufacturing. I have a letter from my employer that says that I'm essential, but I've never been asked to present it going either direction (I currently live in Canada and work in the US). Once my wife and I move our situation will be reversed (we'll be living in the US and she'll be working in Canada).

I can't imagine that doing this would be an issue for you. Essential workers are exempt from quarantine requirements entering Canada as long as the purpose of their travel is for essential work, so as long as you're not planning on other activities in Canada (eg. vacation or visiting family) you won't have an issue. Stopping at the Tim Hortons drive through, etc, is permitted as long as it's not the purpose of your travel.

Also, note that CBSA agents have wide discretionary powers and may choose to deny your entry if they don't think your work is essential. I've only heard of that happening to one person in one instance (lived in Canada and worked in the US, was told that they would have to quarantine when returning home so elected to remain in the US). Between myself and my family/friends we have crossed over 500 times without other issues.
