We were also DQ beginning of September and realistically I was aiming for May or June according to the timeline on VJ. Also, to be honest, deep down I was hoping that my interview wont come up in April because I am outside of Canada and not excited to have to waste 2k under the ridiculous current quarantine plan. I was hoping there is a chance that Trudeau will lift or modify the restrictions by May but I am not holding my breath.

If you're in the US, just fly to Detroit and rent a car to drive across and avoid the $2,000. That's what my husband did!

This is is why I love this group 🙂 That is very useful, thank you. No, I am stuck in Europe which makes it the more complicated.

Me too.

I'm itching to return to Texas to marry my fiancé so he can start the process upon my return. We planned a tentative May wedding. I'm debating whether to go or wait until Trudeau changes his mind.

I may have misunderstood but if youre the Canadian and you enter the USA with the intent and plan to marry a US citizen they might look at that as fraud... unless youre on a K1 Visa

Thank you for your reply.

I am a Permanent Resident of Canada. I am going to visit, marry and plan to return. My understanding from the forums here is I can do that as long as I don't intend on staying and adjusting status. I have a life here so I am not intending to commit fraud. He cannot come here. The situation makes it difficult for both of us to go to a third country since Americans aren't allowed here. So after some research that is what I am doing. I've come to visit my fiancé. Unless asked I will not freely offer that I am coming to marry him.

Sorry I couldn't work out how to edit my above post

This is actually an interesting scenario I havent heard of before. I entered on a B2 visa as well and ended up marrying my US love after numerous trips but I cant imagine how an officer at the customs would react if he finds out you already have plans to marry in the USA. I also got pulled into secondary and had to show my phone etc. so be prepared for that and whatever you do, dont lie. If you lie about your plans, intentions, they can literally ban you from entering. Maybe someone else on here has been in a similar situation and can offer some guidance or maybe even consult a lawyer to be safe.

Question for those who recently attended an interview or will be soon...

Did you arrive in Montreal a few days prior just to be safe? With covid and flight cancellations I’m thinking I’d feel most comfortable arriving about 2 days early. Will be an extra cost for hotels but it would be terrible to have a flight cancelled and miss the interview completely. Anyone else do the same or am I just being overly cautious?

My interview is tomorrow. I drove here yesterday and the extra night is worth the $100 or so to me. It really eased a lot of anxiety for me

Remember, regardless of your POE you're going to secondary when you activate your IV :)

@Hawk Riders you might know the answer to this: After you get approved at the interview and get your visa, can you travel to another country before going to the USA and activating your visa?

I'm no attorney, just a social worker who's good with systems navigation & data management.

AFAIK that visa simply sits dormant in your passport until you hit the US border; other countries may or may not care it's in there. Beware of any travel restrictions or quarantine requirements for whichever country[ies] are in question...

Yeah, the usual practice seems to be people travelling from Canada straight to the USA after getting their VISA approved. Will definitely ask a lawyer when the time is right. Thank you!

Hey All. First post on here. DQ July 29th. I am in the US currently on a B2 visa, but will be driving back up to Canada on the 11th to do my 14 day quarantine. Would have been nice to get an IL last week so I know where I stand at but what can you do. Hoping to hear something this week! Yes I might be cutting it really close.

You are correct. You can come to the US to marry a US citizen, you just cannot come with the intent to stay and adjust status because that is when it becomes fraud. Nothing wrong with not freely offering the information that you are coming to marry unless asked either (of course you can't hide anything that they do ask about, that can get you banned). You should also come prepared with extra documentation to prove your ties to Canada as coming to get married will likely invite extra scrutiny. Good luck!

I am not a lawyer and nothing I say is or should be taken as legal advice.

Hawai’i would have a hard time as a wedding destination, otherwise 😉
