1. Is a COVID test required for those who cross to the USA by land with IR1 visa?

No. I crossed the border by land on Feb-26 with my spouse to activate IR-1 without any issues. US citizen & Permanent Residents are allowed to cross from Canada to USA. No Covid test and no quarantine were required (however the latter is recommended but not mandated in the State of California).

Hi fellow VJ friends.

I was discussing things with my husband and we came up with few questions that I haven’t seen being answered in our thread because they are related to immigrating during the pandemic and crossing the border.

1. Is a COVID test required for those who cross to the USA by land with IR1 visa?

2. I am deemed an essential worker in Canada (I am an IT infrastructure specialist) and I am considering the possibility to continue working for my current employer in Canada after I move in with my husband in Michigan at least until I find something more suitable in the USA. I wonder if someone has a similar experience with crossing the border daily or weekly. Will CBP accept a letter from my employer stating that I am essential or do they have their own definition of essential workers?

I know many people who are crossing daily for essential work (mind you, it's the other way around, they live in Canada and work in the US, but it should be the same). Many of them are engineers who can work from home, but are still allowed to cross no problem when they go in. If you want to double-check so you don't have problems, just give the border a call to make sure you meet all the requirements.

I might be mistaken but I dont think people DQ in August have been scheduled for interviews yet.... so they will probably be next and then those DQ in September.

We were just hoping some of September will be included in the next batch with august dqs

Question for those who recently attended an interview or will be soon...

Did you arrive in Montreal a few days prior just to be safe? With covid and flight cancellations I’m thinking I’d feel most comfortable arriving about 2 days early. Will be an extra cost for hotels but it would be terrible to have a flight cancelled and miss the interview completely. Anyone else do the same or am I just being overly cautious?

Just dropped my husband off at the airport and he's off back to Canada....missing the birth of our first child since he should be in the next batch of interviews. Please pray for me you all! I think I'm beyond depressed at this point.

We were also DQ beginning of September and realistically I was aiming for May or June according to the timeline on VJ. Also, to be honest, deep down I was hoping that my interview wont come up in April because I am outside of Canada and not excited to have to waste 2k under the ridiculous current quarantine plan. I was hoping there is a chance that Trudeau will lift or modify the restrictions by May but I am not holding my breath.

May I ask why he chose to go back now. Is there any way he could have stayed for the birth

Me too.

I'm itching to return to Texas to marry my fiancé so he can start the process upon my return. We planned a tentative May wedding. I'm debating whether to go or wait until Trudeau changes his mind.

Well I'm not due till may 1st and he had to go back for work. And then he'll be in this next batch of interviews hopefully for April so he'll miss the birth...unless his interview is in the first week in April really.

Hi! Has anyone activated their immigrant visa by flying out of YYZ (Toronto Pearson)? How was the process? Were you pulled into secondary? Feel free to DM me to share! Thank you fam.

I flew in on Saturday for Monday appointment for this exact reason.  I refused to miss my appointment because of a cancelled flight.
