I'm also interested in hearing more about this. I wonder if maybe a separate thread topic on US/Can finances would be a good idea?

I'm also still paying off a line of credit with my bank in Canada and will be keeping my job (but under contract instead of full time with deductions) so they'll be paying me in my Canadian account too.

great idea.

Hi,

I am trying to get my timeline added to the IR1/CR1 but when I try and send a message to @Hawk Riders it says “Hawk Riders cannot receive messages. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there another way to get added to the spreadsheet?

There is not another way. This account can and does receive messages but visajourney may limit the messaging capabilities of new users...

I’ve been a user since March and haven’t ever sent a message. I have tried to send your account a message five times and get the same error code every time. I wonder if I should try and contact VJ about it.

I’m trying to find info on how I can follow up on where my SSN/green card are at. POE was Feb 22. I checked uscis.gov and it says payment received. Is there somewhere else I should be looking/contacting for my SSN?

thank you :)

Same here. I am also keeping my job in Canada as a consultant and am being paid in CAD$ as well. If someone starts a thread about Finances, please sign me up. I don't mind using my RBC account for cross-border transfers for everyday cash, but I will also be selling my house to pay for much-needed renovations to my husband's home (thanks Texas Winter Storm...) and I know I'm going to get dinged horribly by taxes!

I am also unable to message at this time, but have gotten through in the past. Have tried several times over a few days over the last week.

@YYZ&MIA, @CGs_Mother: create a new thread in the "moving here and your new life in America" section for the finance discussion. I conducted a forum search and found most posts there from the Canada portal dealt with licenses and health coverage, so here is community void for you to fill!

The GC can be tracked https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do  once there is a tracking number it will show on here.

You will have to call Social Security to get an update. They will only tell you if it was processed or not and what date, they don't have mailing info. We didn't find them to be very co-operative, you may have better luck. If it's processed it could take 3-4 weeks to get to you, at least my husband's did.

@Hawk Riders, We have visa in hand today (3/1/2021).

We are having issues paying the Fees, I am getting an error saying the Pay.gov site isn't responding.  Is that the same error message others have been received? (and waiting a few days will resolve) or is this something different?

The 22nd wasn't that long ago.  Give it a bit more time.

Your I-551 serves as proof of status and allows you to work, if that is your concern.  Its in the I-9 instructions (many HR personnel don't realize this).
