Hey all, is it normal that for me in https://ais.usvisa-info.com/, the status still shows "Appointment" even though I already had my appointment on Monday? When I check the CEAC status tracker, the status shows "Issued" with the "Final processing" note. I just don't know if the https://ais.usvisa-info.com/ website status should have updated by now also...

That's right....filing officially opens for 2020..but the problem is IRS doesn't allow international taxes to be filed online. I file it in mail. Thank you for the guidance though. I don't think this one thing will kill it for us. I was really worried about not having IRS certified tax returns for me before my husband's interview. But after reading some of the responses here I don't think it will be an issue. I hope so...

We haven't even been able to get a return or transcript on my husband's 2019 taxes yet. I brought the full 1040 and supporting documents and they were satisfied with that. However, we also had submitted the three previous tax years as well, as he's self-employed. I wouldn't worry about 2020 but you can also bring a copy of what you filed.

Right....and I lived here in Toronto with my husband for the last 10 years so I don't have the W2 or 1040 or anything yet. All I had done was my u.s. tax filing, but I guess I will just take the copies of last 3 years tax returns that I had sent to IRS. Really hoping the consulate doesn't pick on that. Fingers crossed.

Quick question for clarification! Ontario Long Form, certified copy of Birth Certificate- is yours on legal sized paper or is yours a plastic type material (like our money)?

The one I have and that has been accepted at NVC is a on legal sized paper. Has both my parents info and birth information, online it says it is an actual certified copy meant for immigration/visa. However, I came across someone else who has a plastic type BC from Ontario so now I’m worried I may have the wrong one.

Yes - NEW, full form birth certificates come on an odd sized (17.5cm x 12.5cm), plastic paper with numerous embedded safety features.  They are just like the Canadian money in their plastic feel.  The front will list your info, the back will be printed opposite (flip up rather than right or left to read)and will have the province name on it.

Now, I say NEW because if you order a new one, that's what you get.  I only had a short version that didn't include my parents' names so I had to order a long form.  Kid 1's is an embossed paper that is a strange size, with water marks.  It was issued when I registered the birth.  Kid 2's is the same plastic one that I got.  That one was issued when Kid2 was born.  The plastic ones became commonplace around 2008 (ON in 2015 - not sure why so late!)

If your copy hasn't been altered (aka laminated when it specifically states not to laminate it like my short form says), and was accepted by NVC, then you should be fine.  The newer documents are just becoming more sophisticated as time goes on because identity theft is a real threat.  Even the Canadian passports are cool.  If you didn't know it already, take a black light to your passport and check out the different pages ;)

My husband didn't have my 2019 tax transcript to take either. IRS says they still have a backlog of 2019 to process. He took my 2019 1040 and they accepted that at his interview. They are aware there is a backlog at the IRS

I don't have for myself....even 2017 or 2018 :( I will just put the copies of my returns that I sent to IRS in the binder. And let's hope they won't reject his visa due to this.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. After some other conversations, I think I have the certified copy of the birth registration (which is said to also be accepted). The long form is an excerpt from that. I just ordered my certified copy last spring, it is on normal paper with an embossed logo

Hi VJ Family,

I would like to ask about Domicile since my wife wasn't living in the US for the past 10 years among which past 1.5 years in Canada with me, however, she's willing to come back and found a job just now and I am expecting my interview in 2 months. I am wondering is 2 months of work, lease (with roommate), new driving license, and few bills would be acceptable to show domicile and that she is willing to go back live in the states before the interview?

Thanks a lot

If she is living there, working there, has her license etc... her domicile is in the USA 👍  However, you will likely need a joint sponsor, as she will not have enough history of income to support you.

Hey guys, I need some help. Losing my night sleep over this, and thought of getting your opinion here heading the situation. I am the U.S. citizen who sponsored my husband (Canadian citizen). I moved to Canada to live with my husband from U.s. after wedding about 10 years ago. I worked in Canada at that time until last year when I quit my job in Canada, took a nice break. And just last month accepted a job offer in the U.S. where I hope to start in the coming weeks. At the time when I was working in Canada, I didn't have any source of income in the U.S. and our accountant in Toronto told us that since I have no income in the U.S. I don't need to file taxes in the U.S. so I didn't file my taxes. Last year during NVC approval process, our lawyer asked me to file the taxes, so for now I didn't go all the way back but sent my tax returns for the past 3 years in mail to IRS. I have made many calls to the IRS and been advised that they have not even processes my tax returns yet. I do have my FBAR returns receipts though. Do you think this is a big deal for the interview? I have my sister as the joint sponsor since I had issues proving my domicile in the U.S last year at the time of approval at NVC, so we quickly added my sister as joint sponsor and we have her tax returns, W2 everything. Please advise your thoughts. Sorry for this long message, and thanks for all the help as always.

We had to reestablish my husbands domicile at our interview last week.  I had to submit my husbands tax return, but they didn't mention it at all.  We actually only submitted his 2019 return a week before we left, so it definitely wasn't processed yet by IRS and we had no issues.  What they seemed to pay attention to was our joint sponsor, who made the USD income.

I crossed the borders January 5th and no sign of neither GC nor SSN. I called the SSN office to know if I have at least any registration in their system and they said no. I scheduled an appointment for Feb 22nd and hoping they can process my SSN there.

My husband crossed on Jan 9th and no signs of a SSN here.
