@Travelingpharm if he has a "common" Mexican name, that could definitely create challenges in ensuring that the person they are looking at isn't someone else.  It will just (annoyingly and apprehensively) take a bit more time.

The funny thing is is that his name is not Mexican at all. It’s very German!

Well...lots of Germans in Canada and the US!  If it's not a Mennonite, Hutterite or Amish name, that should help hopefully!

Hey everyone!

I have a question for the people on this sub who have already had the heir interview moved to the USA. Do you have to wait until you get your SSN before you can change your drivers license over? I know you can work using the stamp in your passport as proof of legal residency but I was wondering if you can switch your license over with it as well. I am a truck driver so if I can’t switch my license over until I get my SSN, being able to work doesn’t really help me lol. I will be moving to either Texas or Arizona as I know it probably depends on the state.

You are correct; look at the requirements for each of these states for your answer!

Wondering if anyone has been able to drive to the border to activate their visa and then drive back home into Canada to tie up loose ends?

I have movers coming next week to empty my house but I won’t be ready to leave the country immediately - gonna have to stick around for about a week afterward before I make the final trip south.  The movers will have to hold my possessions for additional charges until I send them a copy of my activated visa so they can cross the border with my stuff.

Should I bother driving to the border and back, or just have them hold everything until I’m ready to cross permanently?

You can drive to the border to activate and return to clear up loose ends but as of Feb. 15th Trudeau is implementing Covid testing before crossing the land borders now. You will need to have a Covid test 72 hrs before returning and show negative results just like at the airports. Just heard it today

Hi VJ fam. I’m writing with a really heavy heart today after crying my eyes out all morning. We checked my husband’s CEAC status today and it still shows status as “Refused”, but the message underneath is different. His case was touched today. It reads that "A U.S. consular officer has adjudicated and refused your visa application. Please see the letter you received at the interview".

We never received a letter at his interview (just the 221g for medical results which were long received by Consulate back in December). I feel like this is an outright rejection now (unless anyone has seen this message before and knows otherwise). I’m feeling completely defeated. We are simple people and never had any issues/request for additional info this entire process. Don’t really know what to do or expect anymore.

I'm really sorry to hear that. What did the message say before? Also someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think this is a complete refusal. I've seen the messages changed before in other cases too and I think it's just another word for administrative processing

I am so sorry. That does sound like an actual rejection, although they can sometimes be overcome depending on the reason so all hope is not lost. If you haven't already, reach out to the consulate and ask them to provide more information. If it turns out that it is an actual rejection you'll also need to coordinate his passport return (this is the only thing that's making me hesitate because I'm surprised they didn't mention anything about that in the CEAC status or in an email). From there, depending on what the issue is you might want to involve a lawyer if you don't already have one. This is the sort of situation in which they can come in handy. Again, I'm so sorry and I hope this is something that can be resolved relatively quickly.

I am not a lawyer and nothing I say is or should be taken as legal advice.

This sounds like something to confirm with the consulate, especially in light of the error reported by @Travelingpharm...

best wishes on this

Thank you everyone. This was a denial and it is definitely a mistake. They apparently have found someone, that has the same name and DOB as my husband, who was deported from the USA in 2017 for 5 years. They think this person is my husband. It is NOT my husband! I can’t believe they made this error! My husband and I got married in the USA in 2018, he has traveled to USA without any issues multiple times, and even has a NEXUS card issued since 2018. I literally can’t believe they made this big of a mistake. How can they defame my husband like that? We are getting a lawyer and taking action to hold them accountable ASAP. If anyone has any other recommendations, send them my way. This is absolutely ridiculous!!!!

That’s crazy! How did you find out that it was a different person? Did the consulate email you?

I just read your recent reply. This is crazy.

Get a good lawyer.
