Forgive my ignorance but why are you guys delaying your medical till the last minute? Dont they usually give you a months lead time between IL and appointment?

Money, I'm not super rich, and I'm still working. Also not too comfortable doing so much traveling right now. I'm in Calgary, I don't really want to have to fly to Vancouver to do the medical, come back to Calgary, and do another flight. Flights to Montreal are already around $566 round trip, plus hotel, cab, food.

I am still considering going to Surrey, sent an email tonight to see what is available. Vancouver is not too bad, around $136 round trip, depending on when/if I can get an appointment.

Hey all, me again.  My husband just pointed this out to me  under Who Must Attend the Interview on the NVC website:  "You, your spouse, and any qualified unmarried children immigrating with you, must participate in the interview. All traveling applicants required to participate will be named on the interview Appointment Letter you receive from the National Visa Center (NVC)."

My kids (5 and 3) were named on my nvc document received today.  The issue is that they are American Citizens and will not be immigrating with me because they're already legit here.  Do I need to bring them too?  I can just imagine waiting and answering questions with a 5 and 3 year old running (yes they're noisy joyful runners) around.  Someone, please help me.

I got the same question. My husband is the applicant. And I and my little one are both u.s. citizens, here in Canada with my husband. We were living here in Canada for the past years. Under additional applicants, my and my son's name is listed, however we both are u.s. citizens and not immigrating. I will check back on this if someone knows the answer to this.

Yes same. And flights from Regina are eve more because we don’t have direct to Montreal. And it seems like even if I went to Montreal a week earlier than my interview it might still not get there in time, so then I’ll have spent hundreds of more dollars for nothing.. I don’t know. It’s a really hard decision

Not necessarily. Some people get 2 weeks' notice, depending on DQ and when in the month letters go out.

I had a different address for Social Security Card delivery on my DS260. However, since my spouse moved to a new address we need to change it to the new address. Can anyone tell me how to do so? Is there a website we can go to or a phone number that we can call on?

Also, Since I updated my mailing address while our file was at NVC, will my Greencard be delivered to the new mailing address? Thanks!

One option I'm looking at for us in Edmonton is to fly to Toronto and do the medical there, and then drive to Montreal. This is significantly cheaper for us than flying directly to Montreal.

Are you sure? I called today and they said they only schedule immigration medicals Mondays thru Wednesdays.

Also, do you know if the reason you went into AP for your Visa was because they got your medical results late? It seems very unfortunate for you that it only took them 2 days extra to get the medical results but it delayed you about 15 days?

My apologies if this is no longer true, but it is what I was told on Dec 11 when I called.  It's possible they were closed Monday January 4th only.

Yep, the only reason I went into AP was because of my delayed medical.  The officer told me "okay so everything is in order with the exception of the medical, which we have not received".

I was quoted the following timelines :   "Once we receive the medical, we will review it within one week,  and then you can expect to see your passport back 2-3 weeks after that" .. So technically, I received my passport back faster than I was expecting!

I got the same thing for my kids and they are us citizens already in the US so impossible for them to come regardless.

The train would be even cheaper. Parking in Montreal is a nightmare. Never mind driving in the winter.

I got economy tickets on Via Rail for $50 each way (Tuesdays are cheapest to buy on, usually). 6 hour travel time and the train station isn't too far from downtown.

Does anyone know if the petitioner birth certificate or proof of status for the interview have to the original?

No, copies are fine for those two. They're looking for the beneficiary's original birth certificate, original police certificate and original marriage certificate.

Can someone please explain how can I get a Canadian police certificate in Montreal?

Search for RCMP offices or Commissionaires offices in Montreal and call them to see if they currently offer criminal record checks. The new name is "Criminal Record Check for Personal Use", subtype is "other" and you want to make sure they search the National Repository of Criminal Records. The office you call may still refer to the old application name type, which is "Privacy Act" but will produce the same document you're looking for.

It depends!  If you're close to the front of the line in the next batch of IL's you might only have 2 weeks notice.  We had 3.

Also I suspect location has a lot to do with it.  We are in Regina, SK, and travel to both MTL and Surrey were about $900/person round trip, not including hotels, food, medical exam cost, time away for work, etc. Of course this was all much cheaper pre-COVID. If we were close enough to a Dr. to drive we would totally do that and leave lots of time in between.  But two trips is pretty $$$$.
