How long does a police certificate take to get? I know the medical can be done pretty quickly as long as you schedule your appointment.

If you don't have your updated police certificate, they'll put you into AP until they receive it.  Depending on where you get it, it could be a couple of days.  I believe someone managed to get theirs expedited at the Commissionair's.

I would advise against it though because you can’t choose when it gets rescheduled for and there’s really no telling when you’ll get offered another date.

Agree, I'd advise against.  Montreal works so slowly that it might be another year before you get that chance!

There's new video posted on twitter from consulate. Seems like they will be processing some K1 cases and also working with NVC to schedule IR1/CR1 cases for March and April!

I just saw the video on Facebook as well.  I am eagerly awaiting the IL as I should be getting mine this month to go in March, fingers crossed.

by your updated police certificate, do you mean getting a new one with the new name even when the old one is not yet expired?  I thought that was not necessary.

I don’t think there’s any action you can take on postponing your interview until you’re actually offered a date. I received an email shortly after receiving my interview letter, which notified me that I could reschedule in light of the pandemic if I wished to. I would advise against it though because you can’t choose when it gets rescheduled for and there’s really no telling when you’ll get offered another date.

Thanks so much! I emailed the Montreal consulate telling them that I do not need this interview as I am adjusting my status. Hopefully they respond soon. I feel like I’m sitting on a bed of nails here!

I contacted an attorney and the attorney said they can take over the case and get this all sorted out for a fee of $1750 dollars. I do not want to pay that kind of money if this is simply an email to USCIS and the consulate. Let’s see what happens. I have also contacted USCIS to let them know what is happening so that I can get this all sorted out. Goodness kinks in immigration processes are the worst... the 2k USD might be worth it to not have to worry about this so much going forward!

@eketros thank you for all of that information! I was wondering at what stage I would have to provide medical records about our health statuses. The information is easy enough to get (once you go through applying to public school boards in Ontario for supports for a special needs child, you carry a portfolio like you would when you gather documents for the spousal interview!), and the biggest concern will be the cost of getting the doctor letters (because these are no longer covered by OHIP). I am going to also have to provide the same information (and more) to the school district where we are moving.

I'm also guessing I'm going to have to get a letter from my GP about my hypertension and the medication I'm on for this medical exam as well.

I am going to wait until the medical is scheduled, which will still be a while for us but at least I am going to be prepared. And I am also glad they let your 18 year old interview with you. That gives me a great deal of comfort.

Thanks again!

Yikes! I am worried about flights from YVR, as I am flying for my interview that’s on FEB 22nd. I was actually going to book 2 days in advance - fly there Saturday for my Monday interview.  Did you get switched to a connecting flight? I was going to book the 0830AM ......

My flight to MTL got switched from 0830 to 1330 direct.  My return also got switched for a later flight with a connection in Toronto :(.  Small inconvenience in the grand scheme of things.

Hi all. I apologize if this has been answered already.

I am expecting my spouse's interview to be in April (DQ July 24, 2020). I am a US citizen and haven't filed my 2019 tax returns yet (due to personal/business reasons, which my accountant advised).  I do have my 2019 W-2 form displaying my income for reference. I also have my 2016-2018 tax returns and transcripts, which I had uploaded onto CEAC last year and were approved. Does anyone foresee this as an issue at the interview?

Any input/advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hello Everyone!

I have been lurking here for a couple months and I want to thank everyone for all of the helpful information.

I am the US citizen and my husband who is a Mexican citizen but a LPR of Canada for more than 30 years had his interview on Friday, January 29.  The interview went very well and he was approved and they kept his passport.

However, I am concerned that when I check his visa status it still says “refused.”  In the FAQ,  I read that this is to be expected sometimes, but I am concerned about the length of time it seems to be indicating the refusal.  Others interviewed about the same time have already received their visas/passports back.

Do we have anything to be concerned about?  Any advice/guidance is greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Can anyone tell me if the medical exam is received instantly by the consulate after it is sent electronically? I got my phone call from Dr. Lee's office yesterday informing me that they had sent the medical to the consulate (I'm pretty sure they do it electronically). My interview is Monday. Does this mean that the consulate will have received the medical, or is there extra processing in between? Sorry if this is a dumb question!

Good thing you're planning for two days in advance. That'll give you some breathing room in case of changes.

I'll be there Monday too. 🙂 Good luck!
